To put it bluntly yes and yes

The set up i have is a speaker bad stcuk to the inside of the helmet and a speaker, put on the chin peice of the helmet, the lead that came with it allows a mp3 or cd player to be plugged into it.

I can't remember the model, but i got it from maplin electronics in cambridge

They had some in lidl's a while back...only cost £5.00 and yes they allow you to connect up a mp3 player.

Been using mine to talk to the missus with no problems...The following link may be of use to you:

Intercoms (rider to pillion or rider to rider via radio) have earpieces and a mic in the helmet. These connect to an amplifier/switcher black box that can have clever electronics to get rid of wind noise and increase the volume based on the increased outside sound level (e.g. as you go faster). Linked into this is the voice switching mechanism, either voice switched (VOX) or by a switch on the handlebars.

The black box also can have inputs for audio, mobile phone (hardwired and/or bluetooth) and radio. It can also have an output to a radio for full rider-rider comms.

As they said in 'The Long Way Round' a handlebar switch prevents your mutterings being heard accidentally by the other people/persons on the radio channel. However, for pillion to pillion you may prefer a VOX switch system as this is instant.

If you just want to hear music then there are some good flat in helmet earphones that would just connect to your MP3 etc, without bothering with a full intercom setup.
