I've been quite happy with the 020's that came with the bike, but now it's time to change.

Which should I go for? Experiences/opinions sought....

Here a few links I've found:

Unless I'm mistaken it really depends on the bike. Loads of ppl swear by bridgestones but on the fazer forums they dont have many reccomendations.
Suggest you go on the Thunderace forums (if there is one).
Also it really came down to price, often there are offers. Road attacks were £20 more than 020's last week in Leeds

Contis are a lot cheaper.

They were fine on the VFR, no loss of grip whatsoever.

Got Azaros on the XX. Brilliant in the dry, not so brilliant in the wet.

road attacks are newish tyres, new technology. The Bridgestones have been about for years, proven, but old school.

Dodsi has/had 014's on his ZX6, there were dead in a week or so. I've read front 014's are quite susceptible to cupping too. What about front Sport attack, rear road attack?

I'm not doing trackdays yet so don't need superstickies, and I like the mix of grip/durability that the 020's offer.
Basically, I want something that is relatively grippy, but will give me 4000+ miles which will be 60% twisties, and 40% beasting along in straight lines.

Anyway, it's booked in for 8:30 tomorrow, and I'm using thier tools to remove my own wheels when I get there (a proper yoke stand will be nicer than doing it on my own in my garage).

They've got 014's, 020's, RA's & SA's in stock. I'll get whatevers the best price, but definatly and 020/RA on the back.

This seems to be the general consensus;

Those that have them, like them. Those that don't are sceptical.

What does £165 for RA's fitted to loose wheels sound like? Seems like a good price to me.

I paid about £180 on a ride in ride out iirc. for Contis

If there service is good use them mate. Dont nitpic over £5. You end up finding somewhere £3 cheaper but that wont be much good when the valve they didn't replace goes pop 2 miles down the road.

Thanks for the reply. That price is from national tires in barnsley, I'm sure they're good at what they do, but I'm paranoid and protective of my 'new' bike so I'd prefer to take the wheels of myself, rather than let some cack handed apprentice stratch my swinging arm with an ill fitting paddock stand.

it's over £180 for the 020's, so I think it's going to be conti's.

Hi - I have a 900 Diversion and my last two sets of tyres have been Road Attacks. I have just replaced with 020's - that's why this thread interested me. My opinion is that the Road Attacks were superb as far as grip is concerned. They did somehow give extra confidence when leaning right over (although chicken marks were still on mine when I changed em). All I can fault them on is I had a couple of punctures whilst using them (coincidence maybe), but when you stop after a run the Road Attacks seem to be hot and sticky like slick tyres. The mileage I got from these tyres sort of bears this out - it's as though it's a soft compound. Steady riding and I got 4000 miles from the first set and maybe 5000 from the second set. But a close inspection of the tyres reveals quite a lot of cuts and pricks if you know what I mean. I run tyres at 42 back 36 front.
I have only done about 1500 miles on the 020's grip-wise they are ok but I am hoping for a substantial increase in mileage.
I paid £165 to the door for the 020's, and I paid £142 for the Road Attacks this time last year from TST.
Smile
Good luck
Brian

my thunderace has been running on Dunlop 208, and Metzeler Z1 Sportecs, and both have been fine. The Contis are more sport-tour,than the 208/sportecs and I had them on my FJR before replacing with Avon Azaro ST.
