I took my bike into Lamba motorcycles in Carshalton for a 20,000 mile service and the bike had a full service, new front pads, new front wheel bearings, and a new oil pan which cost £110 due to last one being buggered.

Now the total bil came to £581 but i asked for discount as a gesture of goodwill so the bill was reduced to £556.59

From the work they did when i got the bike back i noticed an immediate difference the bike felt much smoother and better almost like it was brand new, it also felt faster and scared me a little as it felt so different.

The last two services i had done on the bike were done by Infinty motorcycles in Purley and my bill with them always about £290-£340
But the bike with them did feel better but not better than what Lamba did to it.

All in all Lamba motorcycles did a fantasic job and i would recommend them to anyone because the service guys take the time to talk to you and run you through estimates of the cost of a service as opposed to other shops like Preimer motorcyles in West Wickham who make one feel like give your money & piss off.

Do you think i got conned or did i get exacly what i paid for?
£556 for a 20.000 mile service is a lot of money but they did a superb job!

How much has your servicing bills cost you?

If services cost that much you should be trying to do most of the things yourself.
An oil and filter change will cost £25 max and 30 minutes of your time. New pads should take another half an hour. etc. etc.
Do as much as you can then let the garage do the more advanced stuff.

Paid £50 for a service, had to redo most of it myself so i've never had my bike serviced by anyone else again.

Same with the car. £200 for a cambelt change, or a afternoon with a mate and a few spanners.

It's when you go out buying a Haynes' and a spanner, bugger it up and then turn up at a garage with your tail between your legs trying to pretend it "just happened" Wink

Most I paid was about £420 that was brand new front+rear tyres and a full service (shims, the lot). I had just got a new job and the bike wasnt serviced for around 10,000kms, so was expecting it to run and feel alot better but it felt exactly the same Sad felt like £420 wasted.

Paid about £300 for a full top end service for my RVF (valves, carb balance, jetting, setup) plus a front end rebuild (seals, oil, springs).

When I can, I do most of my servicing myself (well, Dad lends a hand for areas I'm not yet confident with).

Haynes manual - If you want to see what it really means then have a look at this.
https://www.shartwell.freeserve.co.uk/humor-site/real-haynes.htm

For example:
Haynes: Rotate anticlockwise.
Translation: Clamp with molegrips (adjustable wrench) then beat repeatedly with hammer anticlockwise. You do know which way is anticlockwise, don't you?

Paid £50 to have my valves adjusted, carbs balanced and other stuff.

usually pay £25 for oil and filter + pads etc and do it myself, can't be arsed with paying out, not like second hand bikes are even selling anyway so what difference does a dealer service history make besides that on your wallet.

£556, are you sure it felt better or did u just "think" it felt better because you felt really sick with parting with that money Very Happy

Ive paid round about £120 for a service and it was worth it IMO.

Did they take every bit of the bike apart? including the engine? Sounds like it, Its worth doing that every now and again. Good thing about getting it done at a shop is that they have experience on it so they can do it quicker.

Did a 500 mile service once on a 916, cost the customer over £2500.

He thought it was a bargain.

Many places will try it on ALWAYS check EVERYTHING

I know somebody who was charged for "sundries" asking for details they said "thats for the chain lube"..

The service was being done on a pan european.

Also a mate has just had his fork seals done, he took them off and handed them to the dealership.. they fitted the wrong seals, so after loosely fitting and testing they pissed all the oil out in one go, if he'd assumed and gone off for a road test, discs covered in for oil = one dead biker..

These and may other horror storys is why i'll always learn to do stuff myself and do it, rather than paying somebody to rush it or some incompetent chimp to mash it to death with a hammer and a big stick Rolling Eyes

If you find a competant, non pissriping place to service your stuff think yourself very lucky.
