Between flicking through matrix reloaded and BBC1 I remember seeing bits of traffic cops,

I got the impression that you had to carry your licence everywhere with you along with all paperwork other wise cops have the power to impound your vehicle.Which even if your vehicle licence tax / ins / MOT did turn out to be kosher would make you liable for a £150 release fee and a £20 producer fee.

If not = crusher.

I thought you could keep your licence at home only carrying insurance MOT + tax disc and get given a producer to show your licence within 7 days.

Or is it a case of discretion ie if your vehicle is flagged on ANPR or there is reasonable cause to stop somebody (expired tax disc etc) , they can do this?.

My NTV650 is very much a rat bike these days though theres nowt wrong with it its taxed insured and has MOT and has a enourmous plate on the rear.Looks dodgy though I don't really wanna be stopped or incur the release fee.

any suggestions

Thanks.

You don't need to carry all the paperwork with you in the UK. In fact, you're advised not to, since someone stealing your vehicle will have the V5, MOT certificate, etc as well.

AFAIK it's a different story in the US.

you dont need to carry it all. Carrying your card licence is good so the cops can identify you easily but the rest (mot, counterpart licence etc) can be sorted out with a HORT/1 form or producer within 7 days.

I thought it was that , just that on the program certain people who were without documents had their call impounded as well as a producer.

even having no tax rarely gets a car taken off the road by police. They would however get full (checked) driver details and pass them onto the DVLA for prosecution.
