Seeing as summer in my books has started today (what a day in london), and i have been riding all winter in full gear, im thinking of getting one of these:

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4624606554

For those too lazy to click its a motorcross style armor.

I know it would be a tradeoff for safety when compared with my leathers, and i would imagine would have shitty abrasion qualities, but i would actually wear that and some draggin jeans on a scorcher rather than be tempted by jeans and a tshirt... Opinions?

I'd personally rather use a thin leather biking jacket with armour. But it's got to be better than a tshirt for protection Very Happy

There light wieght and it keeps you cool but they dont hold up in a wreck, theres a pic of a guy some where, he come of in something similar and the mesh just melted when he hit the road, left him with a nice big burn mark Confused

that thing is really for motocross. it protects against impacts but not abrasion that you get from sliding down a road.

It would be better to wear a leather jacket half zipped up with maybe some holes cut in it for ventilation.

FWIW Hein Gericke do/did an 'air' jacket (that's the model name).
Jacket has more ventilation zips and vents than you can shake a stick at. Very Happy

With their flexible Hiptrotec armour I find it ideal on hot summer days.

Id be tempted with that to be honest.
In the summer i normally just wear a hoodie etc unless on a very long ride, so itll add a bit of protection at least

Joe rocket does a mesh based jacket designed for road riding, so more abrasion resistant.

MX armour may well be ok for low speed stunting, but wouldn't expect it to do much if you're sliding and haven't got anything on top.

i reckon i`ll just put up with the heat.

I have a 2 piece RST Leather suit, trousers are pretty cool tbh as they have breathable lining, and the jacket has an inner lining that can be taken out for summer. The only time it actually gets that hot it when stuck in traffic, and tbh summer is the time when you are going to cain the bike with the most confidence, so personally for me i`ll try and be good and wear the stuff all the time.

If its REALLY hot, i may wear jeans with knee guards underneath and a leather jacket with my boots and gloves minimum.

body armour only good for impact.. i be wearing it this sumer for stunting but it wont do much for sliding down road, only bits protectid will be elbow., back etc cos of plastic, the mesh inbetween = ouchies... but its better for impact

might be worht getting body armour suit fior impact and a draggin jeans shirt for some abrashion restiatance altho not perfect.

Yea thats my train of thought, i know it is a tradeoff for safety, but if we have 30c days, i just wont wear my leather jacket. boots, gloves yeah but i WOULD actually wear that and some draggin jeans, this would also be for london riding, so if i was involved in a spill it would hopefully be low speed, if i was going any distance the leathers would come out naturally... Its just i scared myself yesterday when i just wore a string vest because of the heat.... that vest has to be better than nothing, i will look up that other manufacturer someone put... joe something... anyway cheers

Not really, even at 30mph it will last less than a second sliding down the road

I would have thought for riding around london that motocross armour would be quite suitable.
It won't help much sliding down the road, but if you're the ball in a game of tennis between a mondeo and a transit van it would be just the job. Thumbs Up

the only spills i have had have been cars pulling out or doors opening (stay well away from those mercedes doors that open out on a whole lane....) <--- touches a whole lot of wood... touch some for me now i have said that...

Obveously if i get on a fast road i will bare in mind if i go tarmac surfing, i wont be up in the club for a long time (best case)... but most of the danger i get on london roads would be from an impact into a car or something else nasty... rather than loosing the front at 140...

Either way you have all given me food for thought, i dont have the cash for a week or so anyway so i will weigh up the risks....

I use an armour kit pretty simular to this ( Nox one ) and there really comfy, There could because if you just want to pop down the shops you ca njust chuck a jumper over it and your done, But I never really do that.

Id rather get hot and sweety and maybe get a bit of sweet burn than feel the burn of tarmac when I fall off at 40-50-60-70+ mph

The fleece inner liner of my Frank Thomas fabric jacket has soft armour and spaces for all the hard armour (and backplate) from my full bulkier coat. What with the hot weather the past 2 days I have been riding with just the outer layer and armour but still sweating buckets when I stop. If it continues then I'll just use the inner lining and the pads...
