If fitting yourself, then yes. There's plenty fish in the sea, so buyers will look elsewhere if it's not mint, unless they're after haggling with you. I'd replace the parts, keep it for 6 months, then sell it while all the consumables still have good like left in them.

Only way I can see of increasing a bike's value is by doing a lot of work that someone may want to pay to have done to their (future) bike. Bit of a gamble really, as everyone's got different tastes, plus, when buying a bike, most people look for an as-standard, clean and well maintained bike as possible (I certainly do, unless I'm after a full resto. project).
Other way of doing it is to buy a bike that is becoming collectable or rare (a classic?) which is to appreciate in the years/months to come. Again, good condition standard bikes will hold best value.
One other thing to get back some money (but maybe not all you put into a bike) is to keep hold of all the standard parts - exhausts, brakes, wheels, etc. can all be bolted back on, the bike sold, then the aftermarket extras sold on second hand for a few extra quid.
Unfortunately, parts such as tyres, chains, cables, etc won't improve the value of the bike (unless you bought it for a tiny amount in the first place) as they are consumable items - people would expect these to be done on a bike they're looking to buy, or barter money off your asking price if they haven't been replaced. |
