Recently switched to RAC breakdown cover as it was about half the price of what I was paying green flag, and unfortunately today I had a chance to test them out. I was on my way from York down to Peterborough when I noticed my water temp guage had shot round passed the top of the red warning bit! This had been sat abut half way round only a couple of mins before. Took the next turn off on the road I was on, pulled in and switched the engine off. After letting it cool right down I then re-started it and drove up and down the road. The temp guage went from the bottom to the top almost straight away. I called the RAC at 14..45 and explained that the bike was overheating and I though the water pump was knackered. I said that unless the guy coming to look at it had a new water pump I would need revovering. At about 4pm the RAC guy came to look at my bike. Really nice bloke (duke owner) and after checking a few things and taking the cover off the water pump and realising it wasn't turning he called a contractor to come and pick my bike up. At 18.35 the recovery guy came and picked us (me and the bike!) up and I just got home at 19.40. Contractor was a nice bloke as well, another biker as it happened and from the sounds of it he was having the day from hell as he had been busy all day and there was only him working.

My main grumble was that despite saying at 14.45 it would need recovering they sent a guy in a small transit van with no space to carry my bike. I have used Green Flag a few times over the years and they have always had my bike on the back of a truck within about and hour of calling them. Apparently the RAC do have there own bike recovery vehicles, so I don't know why they just didn't send one in the first place! Anyone else had a similar problem with a break down company?

Still at least the weather was nice......

My brother had exactly the same thing happen with the RAC - he tells them that the bike will need recovering so they send poxy little van out, who then has to call for recovery straight away. Rolling Eyes

I was with the RAC when I got hit in the rear on the M1 in my car. Happened at about 5pm. They finally got a guy to me (who wasn't an RAC person, but someone from the services 2 junctions away!) 2 hours later, when they said they'd be between 30 mins to an hour.

The guy on the phone was great, the service was poor though.

I am with Carole Nash for my insurance which includes optional breakdown cover. Had to call them out a few months ago as I had a main fuse blow. Guy arrived within 40 minutes and fixed the fault.

Vehicle he arrived in was a motorcycle recovery van. I think it was SOS Motorcycle recovery.

Excellent service.

AA guy fixed my throttle cable.

Then followed me all the way to motorcycle garage to have a proper one fitted.

Why he didn't pop it in his van i've no idea.

I have breakdown cover arranged through car insurance, the only trouble being they are based in Newcastle ans have the strongest geordie accents and I can't understand a word they say, especially when speaking on the mobile by the side of a busy road, i have to phonetically spell oit street names etc.

I'm with Churchill Rescue (Green Flag) with my car. Had to call them out twice, first time the guy arrived within 40 mins and fixed the car there and then. Second time was when a suicidal deer ran out infront of my car and wrote it off. They were there within 15 mins (!!!), towed the car and took me and the kiddies home. Highly recommended.

Bad experience with RAC Rolling Eyes with a friend when his kwak broke down, same problem...took over an hour to get there, couldn't recover the bike so had to call out a recovery vehicle, took another 90 mins. Finally home by 1a.m (Called them at 10p.m)

Hi

We left the RAC after they took 4 hours to pic me up. They forgot that I had rung them, despite me ringing them back every hour.

To show you how much we trusted them, when we complained they gave us 3 months extra cover free. We didn't even bother to wait for the end of the cover before moving elsewhere.

All the best

Keith

Mate that exhaust looks the nuts!

I had one worse, 12am, didn't get picked up until 5am!

Was lucky it happened outside my gf's or I'd have been PROPER pissed!

They didn't listen to me when I said just send a recovery vehicle, then they sent one for a car, cause they didn't realise a Honda VFR400 was a bike Rolling Eyes
Then the next one they sent got a flat tyre and when it finally arrived it was a fucking massive flatbed truck!

That's RAC too.

Great minds think alike, i've got the same lid Wink

As for recovery services, i reckon they send out a van with someone to check the bike over first and see if it can't be fixed straight away. IF the van guy is unable to repair it THEN they send out a recovery truck...makes sense to me..
