Insurance at 18 as a learner

Just looking at buying my first bike, a 125, the cost of insurance is definately looking like my biggest restriction.

After initialy liking the idea of getting a Honda NSR or Aprilla RS, the lowest insurance quotes online I seem to be getting are around the 800 mark.

This is huge, compared to the 400ish insurance Im getting quoted on the nice Honda CLR city fly my dad wants me to get from a local dealership (hes paying for the bike, me the insurance).

Does anyone know, is it possible for me to get the insurance down to a more realistic level. Or should I give up looking at sporty bikes, and just get the CLR?

Ring, don't get quotes online.

Try as many companies as possible, and play them off against each other.

geared sports bikes like the nsr and rs r quite expencive 2 insure. the nsr is in the insurance group 7 so that gona cost u a bit 2 insure as u r a first timer with ncb, but it all depends on your area, were u park it, wot security u got. try ebike some times they can give a good quote and try www.theaa.com they give bike insurance as well

try ebike https://www.ebikeinsurance.co.uk/, if you want some thing really cheap to insure maybe you should look at a honda cg125, would probably only cost about £400 to insure. You could always look at trail / supermoto bikes, some thing like a dt125 is still a fast bike, insurance will probably be more like £500-600

£400 upwards for a geared 125!! bloody hell.. I pay £240 for a 100 scoot and thats TPFF.. Im 22 btw and its my first year riding. Thats quite a big jump in price..Didnt realise they were so expensive unless its all because you are younger than 21 or something? Even then I didnt think it made a difference age..

For my 2002 NSR at 18 i was paying (nineteen now, with 2 years ncb to transfer when the policy ends) was £585 with express insurance they origionally quoted £780 (on the net) then phoned me and said they could beat it.

Yeahh like the other posts get a CG.

Whats the point in a nice NSR or Aprilla, yeahh they look good, but as soon as you pass your test you'll want rid. Not many people keep to 125 after they pass their test.

Just get a CG, practice for 2 months, take test, sell CG (doubt you'll loose £5), buy big bike.

A CG is far more practicle for the test ie U turns etc, the CG is also cheaper to repair.

I bought my NSR125 when I was 19. Insurance was just over £530 for fully comp or just under £300 TPFT with www.lexhaminsurance.co.uk

They quoted me £3500 for the YZF though , so I went to motorcycle direct who quoted around the £400 mark.

thats with lexham and not sure who im with now :S

Mind you, I'm old, ummm, 30. But have no NCB...

The CLR is a good bike to learn on, its stable and reliable, they're hard to come by though, well, it was for me anyway...
