Hi,
Just got in. Had another spill (2nd in 2 months). Not sure if I'm getting back on the bike again, but thats for me to decide and perhaps another thread!
This time, it involved another vehicle. I hit the side of a VW Passat (company car). I believe the driver pulled out on me.
It occurred at a X-Road without any give way markings, with 2 of the four exits leading down one-way streets. I approached from a dead end (i.e. not an expected route to a driver used to the route).
I checked right, then left and saw no moving vehicles. I was travelling at no more than 20mph. I continued straight across when the black passat pulled across my path. I hit the front side of the vehicle. When the vehicle stopped, there was also damage to the passenger doors. The front of my bike was only slightly damaged (Fairing, Extended Screen - possible other damage) and I was unhurt (aside from a brused leg).
Exchanging details, the driver stated that she had right of way as you should give way to the right. This is only valid had the junction been a roundabout, and reinforces that she was not paying attention to the road (a vehicle could only have come mine or her direction onto that junction).
Two witnesses gave the other driver their cards, however did not give me the details.
I was wearing full protective textile gear, inc. Hi-Vis Vest and had my headlamp on. The road was damp.
I'm not after opinions as to whose fault it was. I'm asking what I need to do now.
The bike is currently at the recording studio I was visiting, It's parked off-road but can't stay there for too long.
I believe I need to report the accident to the police. I'm insured TPFT, do I need to contact my insurance company, or get straight onto the legal protection side of the company? Are they likley to collect the bike for me, or do I need to arrange that?
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers,
