Hayfever

Well its looking like the summer is well on its way, fly's on the bonnet of the van, tanned forearms, long nights, lots of greenery, and the snuffles coming on

I love the summer, but I hate me hayfever! I can feel it coming on already, and with me working with grass as part of my job, there's nothing I can do about it. Iv found Bennadryl (one tablet a day- you can tke more ) seems to be the best, but Iv heard that there is more natural methods of treatment, such as Honey? Never had a chance to try it though, as its not something I keep in me cupboards.

What do you use?

yeah i get the same dude, and it only started last summer so that was a right pisser

i take Zirtek tablets seem to do the job also it was the GP that recommended em to me so worth a try mate.

also about the honey mate it is meant to be local honey apparently but i am not trying it as i hate the bloody stuff lol

I suffer as well.

The only drug I have found to even touch it is Benadryl Plus. Even that only takes the sting out of my eyes, doesn't touch the bunged up nose and snot.
You can take 3 of them a day, typically breakfast, lunch and dinner time, but I regulaly take 4 (one just before going to bed) and have taken up to 10 in a day (not recommended, didn't do much and cost a fortune, probably none to healthy either).
None of the '1 a day' types helped at all, well, they did for the first hour, then they just faded away.

Local honey eaten through winter is supposed to be good, as mentioned, as it helps your body get used to the pollen.

I most notice it though when I'm around London, out in Wiltshire, amongst the fields and flowers, its no where near as bad.

I've tried many a thing over the years for it and for me the product that had the most effect is the liquid homeopathy stuffs (liquid because generally I can't take the tablets but most other people can). My hayfever symptoms suggested Euphrasia but there are other options -

Having said all that I stopped taking any products a couple of years ago as an experiment and my symptoms have actually eased somewhat. I'm hoping this continues year on year as I'd like to look forward to March - October without shuddering at the prospect of sticky, crusty eyes

My hayfever started when I was 11.

Just realised that I am only 2 months away from having to pay for prescriptions. Therefore I have gone to the doctors every week to get 30more tablets saying my hayfever is really bad.

Hopefully my stock should last for 2 years at least.

Try putting a little bit of Vaseline on the inside of your nostrils,this will hopefully trap pollen.

Also dont sleep with the windows open.

i suffer from hayfever, or should i say used to. tried tablets, didnt really work fo me. Then my mom got me a nasal spray - wow, its amazing! Just one spray up each nostril in the morning and your fine for the rest of the day
Just dont spay it too far up/sniff right after doing it, cuz then it goes down your throat

The only thing that as ever worked is Loratadine non-drowsy tablets.

My tip for good protection. Start taking prescribed tablets about a month before your hayfever starts that way it seems to prepare you for the season, like a vaccination. I found this works for me.

I can't take antihistamines as I have to take... histamines for my dodgy ears, so I use the Beconase nasal spray instead. Seems to do the trick but then my eyes don't generally get bad anyway, just my beak.

Hi

I get mild hayfever. Used to be far worse but I found that largely triggered by some soaps. If I use cold tar soap then the hayfever is very mild.
