Hi , i'm after a bike for my move from scooters and today i came across this GSXR 400 , i can easily insure it , and its a 2 minute walk from my house .

It has a full 12 months tax & MOT , sounds and runs smoothly has mini indicators , small plate , 4 into 2 system etc.. , but it has been dropped on the right side and the fairings are badly scratched , the right side exhuats is scraped but not too bad , the left mirror is missing and the right side upper fairing is cracked and has a piece missing from the corner .

Technically it seems sound but the bodywork will defiantley need - well bodywork lol .It's a GK73A model. What i'm wondering is is it worth it and how much will it cost to repair the bodywork ?

The lad wants £750 ono

Heres a few pics but you can't really see the damage ....

Anyone know any online sites i can get the fairings and if other models i.e the GK76 fairings fit , i have until tommorow afternoon to make a decision so any help is greatly appreciated .

Thanks ,
Mak .

Honestly, it looks like a relatively good deal, however, GSXR400s are as rare as hens teeth; as such, you'll have a hell of a time even finding good fairings, let alone ones which match that paint job. Otherwise, it will be an expensive repair which won't be mint.

Are you looking to restore it to good nick?

Also, how much can you knock off the price?

well i was thinking about stripping it and repainting the lot - the paint job doesn't really bother me . But , the cracked upper fairing does Sad That will have to be replaced

Cracked fairings can be fibreglassed and filled, but as I say, getting them mint can end up very expensive. Missing pieces are a real problem, I'm not sure if you can repair that.

Honest to god mate , i've been looking for a bike for 6 weeks now ! , only 3 have fit the bill - this one ^^^ a VFR 400 that had no tax or MOT Rolling Eyes and a CBR 600F - which was dinged worse than the GSXR .

I can honestly say theres not much for sale in the Newcastle area , i only have a grand to spend so i'm knackered if i have to pay more .
I know it's skimpy but it's all i can afford

I'm sure one will come along, just keep a good lookout on forums & ebay. How far would you travel to buy a bike?

Can't travel that far - 20 miles MAX unfortunatley - the VFR was a 84 mile round trip to look at and that was a one off .

Okay others within my travelling distance ( if i can get a lift ) are .....

A Bandit 400 for a grand

VFR 400 NC24 £795

CBR 400 £1150

Bandit 600 at a push - £1400

GSX 600F - £700 - f reg

That's it at the moment - only have about a grand to spend and would prefer a 4 over a 6 for my first bike , especially for insurance purposes .
Those bikes were all listed in text with no pics so i can't even be sure they're worth it .

Also i'm guessing the Hondas maybe the better engines ?

May sound silly - but it's my first real bike - i don't want to start instantly messing with it & having to spend money on it .

Is a 400 really going to be less to insure than a 600? Yes most are less powerful, but also most are imports so parts availability can be difficult. So I wouldn't expect a 600 to be much more than a 400 to insure. That's just my view on it though, it might be an idea to get some quotes before you rule out 600s entirely.

I just got a Bandit 600 as my first proper bike, and I thought it'd be too powerful for me but it's not. Remember you're in control all the time, if you don't want to go so fast ease off the throttle a bit. Although mine's now 33bhp, I dunno if you've done / doing DAS or A2 tho.

It was more expensive for me to insure a cbr400 than a tt600.
Even cheaper still was the sv650 hence why I bought one.

Also in most quotes tpo was more expensive or only a few quid less than tpft.

Excellent points lads , cheers Thumbs Up

Going to give the bike a miss & hope & pray something better comes along .
a CBR 600F would suit me down to the ground but would probably cost me around 2G Sad

Karma will be dished out , thanks again Thumbs Up

Where are you doing your DAS at?

I'm doing mine with D&J with my test on the 14th June.
