I'm waiting for a Power Commander to be delivered from the US, it's currently been released to Parcelforce from HM Customs for delivery. Anyone imported anything from the US and payed tax? I know I'm going to get tapped for some wedge and I'm wondering how much. I've had a look at the Customs website and it's all fairly vague.

The PC was about £170 with delivery, any ideas?

I know I'll get hit for VAT @ 17.5% but I thought the leeches add various other charges.

A couple of the lads here have ordered stuff, had it delivered to the work address and just had them plonked on their desks in the morning. They seem to have you owe us £** whatever stickers on them, no one's ever been chased up to pay so I'm hoping that's what will happen, but I know my luck.

Still a shed load cheaper than buying it over here. Dynojet with their advertised "cheap direct prices" wanted £370! Fuck that. Cheapest I've seen it £245 on Ebay.

Ask the sender to send it as a 'gift'. Or I think cosmetic/medical samples are also excluded from duty.

I've done the gift thing before on cheapish stuff, it's not worth it if you've got something worth some money though as you can't get any insurance back if it goes walkies.

Honestly mate its not that great out here in the USA, on a students budget its f*cking awful. When you have to earn dollars fuel is expensive. Cars are expensive a sh*tter will set you back $1000+ maybe a bit less. Food isnt cheap $5 for a gallon of milk $4 for a loaf of bread. And they add so much sh*t into the food its stupid the bread is sweet so you gotta be carful what brand you buy. And every thing in NC has brown f*cking sugar in it. Southern style bbq sucks!!!

When you look at it from a UK p.o.v yeah its all nice and cheap cause the pound is stronger. When you £'s run out and you gotta earn $'s it gets silly. The most annoying thing is the tax (changes from state to state) Its the fact if a thing is for sale for say $99 you still have to add tax to that. Thats were they get ya they dont include the tax in the prices here.

And in the south all the people are c*nts end of the states which have alot of tourism are fine as the people are ace Thumbs Up . Its the redneck states that stuck they are not willing to accept you unless you go to church and where born in the state.

I cant wait to get back to be honest. I will move back to the states one day maybe, but not for a while yet Thumbs Up

Suppose your right its just little things like were the 5th highest taxed country in the world (as far as petrol is concerned) and US is 2nd lowest (no1 being Mexico) you have a better insight on day to day consumables than we'll ever get its just when I look at my wages then see them again after tax and NI it makes me want to cry
