derestricting a 2003 nsr125r

Hey guys,
i wondered if you could help me,
Does a 2003 nsr125r have an intake restrictor plate like on the earlier 2001 models as i have had the exhaust restrictor removed and woindered if there was another restrictor?

Yes, www.nsr125.com will show you where it is and how to take it out. I had a 2004 NSR so it's definately the same on yours!

of course except if it's an import my dear , because french,german,swiss import are restricted on electronics . give me your serial number (it's on a label bteween the 2 yokes) it has this type (* replace unknown caracters) : ZDCJC22*R1F******

thanks guys, cool thats where i found out about the restrictor in the first place but wasn't sure if it was on the 2003 model as well.

so your bike is an italian import , no restriction on electronics . take off the restrictor plate between carb and reeds , keep in the plastic pyramid , take off restrictor at exhaust pipe entry , fit carbon reeds , sparkplug NGK BR9EIX , and you must hit 105 mph

What do you mean by the plastic pyramid? And also where can i get the carbon reeds from and how do i fit them?

you will reconize it on the picture (it's maked with a cross). it's between the restrictor plate (number 3) and the block reed . if you want carbon reeds send me a pm , i will tell you , i bought several for ul mates

thanks for all the help guys. i was planning on doing it on the weekend but couldn't wait so i had a go at it tonight. What a difference it makes, the response, acceleration, top speed has improved. I love it.

because it guides the mixture inside the carter-motor and keep the air proof of the reeds . in fact this can be taken off in case you fit a bigger carb , but the 28PHBH (30 is ok) is a good compromise between engine power and fuel consumption .

how do you find out your jetting? as i am unsure what mine is?

The jets have numbers on them, lokk carefully, but you will have to take the carb off and apart to see them.

the size in written on top of the 2 first and on the side (you need good magnifiers) for the power jet .

i dont really need to change them do i? i mean its ok as it is, what will changing the jets do?

de-restriction means higher revs , so to protect engine from seizing you MUST upjet your carb , because seizure will appear over 9500 rpm

ok then... if i were to do this, i have absolutley no idea how to do it. so would i just take it a garage and ask them? or what? an would i tell them the jets i want, and would i need to change the size of the carb,e tc. its all new to me, i have no idea...

first of all , send a mail to mattew cooper [email protected] to order this :
carb 28PHBH/FD
- 1 main jet 138
- 1 slow jet 42 (sometimes called idle jet)
- 1 power jet 65
total bill around £10
order also here : https://www.sparkplugs.co.uk , 2 sparkplugs : 1 BR9EIX and 1 BR10EIX . the BR10 is to be mount now , the BR9 for late automn . ( £6.84 ex VAT each)
when you have it , go to your garage (if you do not know how to fit them) and ask to change them and to take off the restrictor plate . it will not take more than 1 1/2 hour to do the work .

I was the same as you and never for a moment thought changing jets was something I could do. I used Alain's guide and had it done and revving like a dream within the hour. So glad I did it. Worry not, you can do it.

yeh but dont people get new jets to increase their speeds, and therfore lose out on fuel economy. Dont really need to upjet, i mean, the exhaust restriction was not present when i bought it, the onyl restriction there might be is the carb. would u still recommend up jetting to theose sizes? and also what difference do the spark plugs make? one for now and one for autumn???

the enemy of a 2 strokes engine is a lean mixture , if you derestrict your exhaust and intake , it's to go up in the revs , getting also better torque and if you stay on same jetting you will surely have soon or later an engine seizure . why using 2 different plug , because the BR10 is more adapted for high temperature , and the BR9 in the rest of the year , even in scandinavia i recommand tu use BR8 in the winter ! about their life , i ordered 2 of each , 2 years ago and 2 still remains unused

ok seeing as i do not want an engine seizure, ever! i will definatley get these jets. but the spark plug - surely the one i have is fine? what are the bennefits? also are they iridium? or should i not bother thinking aboth iridium spark plugs?

Hey NSRdude, i've got a tweaked up 2-stroke, and it was nice before, but i've now got a new iridium spark plug and the bike just feels so much more crisp, and the throttle response is better, it pulls smoother and has a more steady at tick over. As mods for bikes go, i think its one of the best you can do for the money, and mine only cost £7.49.
I'd highly recommend a iridium plug, you'll notice the difference straight away!
