I'm using an old pair of cheapo gloves my brother bought to use on his 50cc, and I'm thinking of getting a pair of better ones (ones that actually have knuckle armour!), but the other day I saw some summer gloves... much thinner and mesh-like but still with knuckle armour, are they alright? My hands are getting too overheated in the cheapo gloves I've got anyway, so I'm tempted, but how many of you use them, and how safe would you rate them?

I always had winter and summer gloves. Nothing worse than when your hands get to hot and sweaty.

Mine were mainly a thin leather with plenty of armour but they still have a lot of protection on the palms.

Also all of the knuckle armour had vents to keep the air flow nice!

Got mine from J&S for about £40

The ones I saw had the knuckle protection and palm protection, but the backs of the gloves were breathable... Only cost £10, but didn't get them, was a bit unsure...

I'm the same, always used winter and summer gloves, in fact I have some spring/autum gloves too (Gortex lined summer gloves).

It all comes down to how much you are willing to spend. Also try a few different pairs on in a shop as they all have different fits, then buy them online cheaper!

I wear summer gloves most of the year and don't worry about them being a bit thinner than winter ones, they suit me. Fair enough last time I crashed in them I broke my finger but I suspect that would have happened in any gloves. Did take a huge chunk out of the knuckle armour though, so it is worth having.

Belive me, if you crash and feel your hands hurting, you move them away from what's hurting them quickly enough.

I got myself some A-stars SP2 gloves and they have the best fit for me and feels supple. I get great feedback from them. Only downside is that they aren't ventilated and can get sweaty. Other than that a good pair of gloves.

I spent over an hour in Hein Gericke the other week looking for the perfect glove.

I tried so many.

In the end I settled for one of their own gloves, a Pro Sports.

The reason was its venting and the leather felt subtle and moveable, not like my alpine stars that took weeks to wear in.

They also said they're own lable gloves are guaranteed for 3 years.

Only downside its made from kangaroos and being a vegetarian it doesn't look good, girl friends p***d off about it.

tbh they sound like the sort of gloves designed for off-road, ie, not running along the tarmac at 60-70mph. They really don't sound like £10 well spent.

Most people tend to use race gloves in the summer. The leather is nice and thin and they are usually ventilated somewhere to help the cool air flow.

I had mine for about a year, and they were starting to look a bit tired. Very comfy though, then I crashed in them. They took some use and held up fine so get Thumbs Up from me

I use some Riossi summer gloves that I paid £60 for (the week before they reduced them to £30 Evil or Very Mad ), they're vented between the fingers and never get too hot. The armour is good and they're double leather on the palms and other inpact areas.

All in all a very good summer glove. I have winter gloves as well, have to seperate the two. If nothing else, the feel for more .... erm .... spirited summer riding is imperative.

Cheers

Grim

Got a pair of these for summer use, cheap enough at £24.99 and look as if they could withstand a good roadrash...

I recently got some Nankai NRG33. Haven't had chance to use them much yet, but they're well armoured, have air ducts on the fingers and being kangaroo leather are unbelievably dextrous. I can actually type at a fair rate on a keyboard with them on Laughing

I use Alpinestars SMX gloves during summer, great as they are cool and thin enough to let you do zips on your jacket, fasten your lid, get keys out of your pocket etc.

The venting between the fingers is a must.

My last summer gloves didnt have this and thus I sweated, then the seems went. I blame the sweat for braking the seems.

Thus go for vents!!!

Only problem rain. Carry them free gloves you get a petrol stations
or 500 for a £ from £ shops.
