 Posted: 15:11 - 11 May 2006 Post subject: Fuel Consumption |
 |
|
So I ran out of petrol today. First time since I've had the bike, so I wasn't sure quite how far I'd go on a tank. Turns out it's 160km (100 miles) or so. Now, it cost me £15 to fill up, so my tank's about 3 gallons. This makes it 33mpg. Most of this riding has been done getting to work, so city commuting, sitting at traffic lights and stuff.
Now a couple of people at work have told me that's terrible, their car can do that etc etc. So what I want to know is:
Is this "normal" for a Bandit 600? Or should I be able to do more?
Has my fuel consumption been altered because it's restricted?
How can I improve my fuel consumption?
Thanks for any help. ____________________ My bike: Suzuki Bandit 600 (33bhp)

Derestrict it I hear that it doesn't help being restricted
Most sports bikes, the fuel consumption is not good. My last bike the gsxr 600 gave around 37mpg..which is what the books quote, though your bike, you should get about 45mpg.
Just one of the reasons why I changed my bike to a Buell XB12R which has a lot of torque, but the engine revs are half that of my gsxr. I get about 10mpg more than my last bike and the engine size is twice as big! (Also it suits my ridding style, and for me it is more exciting to ride...when I want to) ____________________ BMW R1200GS & Honda Fireblade 929RR

I get about 35.47 mpg on a 98 Blade, it may be comparable to a 2 litre Mondeo but I know which gives better performance
Cheers

I get about 36 commuting. A tenner for 100 miles. It's not as good as most small cars, that's true, but I know what I prefer. My 600 is restricted ( mistake, won't be doing that again ), but they are 'falling out' next weekend. It'll be interesting to see if it does make a difference. In more ways than one... ____________________ BCF's 6th favourite poster 2009-2010

Hi
Much of it is probably down to where you are riding. Extreme example was my old 1.3 lhd Alfa 33 which would manage about 20mpg when used round town, cruising at 90 on the motorway it was just shy of 40mpg.
My played with 1200 Bandit manages a bit over 45mpg in general use. FZR600 nearer 50mpg. FZ750 a bit more that that.
Noticeable that when the 1200 Bandit had the gearing lowered with 1 tooth less on the front it increased fuel consumption by 10%.
All the best

Is it me, coincidence, or just random figures, but average mpg seems to have lowered over the years - or are more modern bikes more thrashable (or require more thrashing?) |

W T F!
I ride a restricted Bandit not that liberally and I easily get 160 miles out of my tank at about 50MPG! ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. XJR1300 does about 100 miles to reserve tatting around with plenty of fast blatts (about 30 MPG) but it will see 35-40mpg on a long steady 80-90mph motorway run.
My KLE500 used to do 35 however hard it was ridden and my mates Bandit 650 does about 45 on his 50mile commute upto Manchester each day, but then he rides pretty conservatively.
Have you thought of getting a C90
