Flash: run sequence

sory if i miss spelled the title lol,,

looking for advice on flash animation.

decided now that im jobless i better do sumthing worth wile with my time, so i fancyd learning flast animation an possibly actionscripts, although not really botherd about actions scripts in the mean time.

i know the basics of html na basics of flash animation, but what i realy wana no (if anyone does no anything about animation in macromeidia flash) is how to create a run sequence,

i could do it with useing multiple layers and alot of times but i was wonderin if sumone could exsplain the prossec to me,, coz im sure ther has to be a better way than the way im doing it just now.

any info would be great.
