Evening all,

Im new to the forums, just wanted to say HI, the reason im here is, I was walking down the road and thought, I wanna ride a bike.

Im 24 years and have been driving for years and i found a nice place that will do my CBT for £85 in london. Ill do that in a couple of weeks,

Any tips for me guys, which 125 bike start off with, riding tips, as I am quite nervous about how GEARS work in bikes.

I used to ride mopeds when i was younger, so i dont know if i will be able to work out how the gearing systems works.

cheers
Jake Wink

Welcome!

Nice choice on becoming a biker Wink.

Now for a start, I'm not a girl, just to get you on the right track Thumbs Up.

Secondly, what style of bikes do you like?

Sports bikes, cruisers, something to commute on?

That would help us help you Smile.

Hi & Welcome to the forum.

In all honesty it won't take you too long to pick the gears up (something that will be covered on your cbt), as the prinicples are the same as in the car.

If I were in your position I'd give careful consideration to taking the DAS route, skipping the 125cc part, as it'll be more cost effective in the long run (you may get bored with the 125cc bike quite soon).

Honda NSR125
Aprilia RS125
Cagiva Mito 125
Honda CBR125
Suzuki RG125
Yamaha TZR125
Derbi GPR 125

Have a look at them.

With a CBT you can ride anything up to 125cc. Suggest doing your test though, you'll want a big bike not so long after riding a 125 me thinks Smile.

Left hand does the clutch, left foot shifts up and down the gears... it's a doddle. It takes about an hour to get used to it, then it becomes second nature.

I'd personally recommend a CG125, but then I'm biased Wink. They're not something you can go badly wrong on, though, especially if you only intend to keep them for a few months.

You might be right mate, let me read into the DAS , The MITO is sweet little 125 i think i might go for the mito, as first bike

So how much does the average bike lesson cost? as i am crapping myself about riding one these things.. also im about 60 kg,

silly question but, do i need to put some weight on to ride a 125 bike like the MITO, is it really heavy to hold and ride Embarassed

ideally mate, i would want to ride the 125 for like a year maybe more just to really get the hang of it, I am a speed freak, but i will take it easy, as i dont really want to die just yet.

Also my uncles mate died the last summer, he came of his R6 and broke his neck, so that makes me wanna take it easy, as london is abit dangerous for bikes

125's aren't heavy at all, wait til you try a bigger bike Wink.

Bike lessons? For the CBT?

The CBT is training, which will teach you the basics and also basic theory about the road.

Basicly you'll drive around some cones, learning to balance on the bike then you'll be given some theory (maybe have a cuppa as well) and then you'll be taken out onto the road to get used to it.

The only way you'll fail a CBT is if you're proven to not be safe on the road.

And I'm only 50 kilos and I can throw a 165kg bike around easily, so no worries Wink.

Hi Godz,

If you fancy a 125cc for more or less nothing let me know. I have one taking up valuable garage space and need rid. It needs a wee bit of work to get an MOT. i.e new fork seals and front brake pads. Will do you till u get a proper licence at least. If u can be bothered collecting from Glasgow then let me know?

my advice would be this. your 125 bike is only to get your test. fuck the looks of it, it is just ease of use you want. a CG125 would be your best bet. Once you get your test, you can have any bike you want, but its a waste of money forking out £3k for a sports replica 125, when £k will get you a C¬G and your test.

Good luck mate, and watch out for the trolls, and cagers lol

thanx for the advice it makes sense not spending all that cash for something which is a 125 and copy of a faster bike, and in all honest all i want is a run around to get used to how bike riding works, so i get some confidence, so the CG125 might be best option like you said,

P.S. sweeet CBR 600 by the way
