I was commuting to my local honda delaer the other day for some qoutes on parts and I came to a small roundabout. a car was to teh right of me and LOOKED like it was going left so I was surprised wen it turned right when I decided to go across.
nothing happened except a raised hearbeat and bit f'ins from the driver driver.
As I went over the roundabout i turned round to see that the driver did in fact have his indicators on but i didnt see them.

its not that I didnt check for his indicators but that fact I couldnt see them as the car had white lenses on them with the sunshine glaring on them which made it invisible to MY eyes.

Anyone else think this should be stopped or something as IM sure Im not the only person who's had the same problem?

I don't get it. If he was to the right of you, he had no reason to go into your path, or you into his. If he was going to turn left he would have been in your lane, surely?

I know what you mean, sometimes its hard to see indicators going especially if they have white lenses. They are allowed to be white/clear as long as they actually flash amber/orange. I always just wait to see what they do rather than go and then not see them. If in doubt, stay put. Wink Thumbs Up

You give way to traffic from the right on a roundabout in this country. You are only supposed to have one vehicle at a time on a mini roundabout.

Unless I misunderstand what you are saying, you shouldn't have been there to get a raised heartrate in the first place.

It is also a well known fact that the indicators on a car mean absolutely nothing. Assume they are coming to get you until you actually see their wheels turn in the direction they are going. There have been many occasions when I have seen someone indicate right then turn left. If you just ignore them altogether and assume they will suddenly do the most unexpected thing possible, you will survive for a lot longer.

erm yeah that is a bit confusing.

I mean the junction coming onto the roundabout to the right of me.

I know i should of waited and at fault and can be called a prick if you like its just the lenses I disagree with.

Highway code rule 161:
Quote:
161: When reaching the roundabout you should
*give priority to traffic approaching from your right, unless directed otherwise by signs, road markings or traffic lights
*check whether road markings allow you to enter the roundabout without giving way. If so, proceed, but still look to the right before joining
*watch out for vehicles already on the roundabout; be aware they may not be signalling correctly or at all
*look forward before moving off to make sure traffic in front has moved off.

EDIT: I'm not flaming you. Just pointing out how you can avoid the situation in future.

For what it's worth, I agree that the flashers are difficult to see but the ones I think are worse are those cars (Ford Focus?) that have the flashers INBOARD of the position lights. I just don't look for them there and they are extremely difficult to see if the headlights are on. Can't see how it can be legal, I was always under the impression that the rules for positioning of lights were pretty inflexible.

Oh, so you though he was going to turn left before he got to you ie onto the same road you were on. Now I understand. But unless you actually saw his indicators flashing left, which they weren't, you should have waited. If you couldn't see the indiacators, you should have assumed he was going straight on, and therefore in your path anyway. Even so, like Stinkwheel says, I would wait until the wheels are pointing away from you before moving off. If he had pulled out on you when you were on the roundabout you'd be saying 'f***ing cagers.'

U sure he didnt just put his indicator on after u nearly hit him?

Also it really fucks me off when people leave indicating to the last second, Like if ur waiting to turn our of a junction onto a narrow road. They pottel along and at the last second they indicate and turn into where u are!!!!!

And I do struggle to see indicators somtimes.

I think the main thing is just dont rush roundabouts, people fuck up on them all the time, " I want that turning, SHIT NOT THAT ONE!!! " you know what its like Mr. Green

If 'something was done about them' we'd all see a whole load of bikers moaning about how petty the police were when they got pulled - thanks to stupidly small indicators with crappy bulbs that were put on to replace the useful ones purely for the tart value.

well dunno could of put the flashers on and I wouldnt be shouting bloody cagers coz i know i was in wrong. I dont mind constructive criticism and tips but I dunno why people keep saying was in the wrong when I've quite clearly already pointed out myself I was.

this isnt a rant at car drivers just seeing if anyone agrees with me bout white indicator lenses are alot harder than standard lense to see in sun glare.
