The only thing that struck me was you said that once when it started that there was loads of smoke??
Does it smoke all the time or did it at the time of the breakdown?

It wasnt smoking when i left the petrol station, it smoked when we got it going again.
When i got the new plugs there was a lot of smoke, i put that down to a little oil and maybe because we were inducing the petrol manually.

mmm ok if was smoking all the time I'd be worried something was letting oil get through to the combustion chambers. Which wouldn't be good. If you have done all the obvious like carbs, air filter, set valve clearences...you know all the service things. Then..mmm I am not sure. You done a compression test?

The Sickpup verdict is you are running very rich with around 6%+CO2

Bet no ones bothered with an EGA yet.
