I really don't believe in "Compensation culture" - I think everyone should take responsibility for their actions. When people get excessive 'compensation' payouts we all lose by paying higher insurance.
HOWEVER - my solicitors have just phoned and said that even though I wasn't very seriously injured in my crash I could still get compensation.
It's not like I really need it, but damn it's hard to say no when they are offering me money for nothing.
So tell me not to be a money grabbing bastard and just get on with life.
Or should I take the cash? |

I used to think like this.
But when I had my crash I had to cough up for physio treatment before I got any for of repayment from the 3rd party.
As a result for 6 months I was heavily overdrawn and running up credit card bills as I had to also pay for train tickets as I was unable to ride.
In total I owed £3,000 (roughly). Because I had very little real money, I couldn't afford to live on my own, so I had to move home.
That was this time last year. I'm only just recovering financially.
I wanted compensation for my expenses, that I got. As it happens, I received £1,300 in additional compensation. Peanuts if you think about the situation.
I would still be the same now, I really do not see the point in sueing the ass off everyone. Otherwise you'll start needing insurance just to walk down the street! ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

You could always take the cash and give a percentage to a favourite charity.
While it's coming out of the big pot we all pay into, at least you can feel slightly better from it for going towards something you believe is a good cause . |

I used to think the same until my car was written off, and am still suffering from flashbacks, nightmares and panic attacks when driving, not to mention having sold my bike because I have lost all confidence. The accident has greatly affected me in more ways than I thought it would.
I am so glad I claimed (still waiting for the £ and the accident was almost a year ago) and I feel that it is justified, as does my solicitor, and the various doctors and physiotherapists I've seen. I've got to see a shink shortly too.
That's just it - if you feel that it is justified, then claim. I am not a believer in unnessary claiming though. Think about how your accident has affected you and base it on that. Has your confidence been affected? Do doctors think that you will suffer from pain later on due to the accident?
Remember that you will have to see a series of doctors to justify if a) you aren't telling porkies and b) how much you are entitled to. Unless you are a great lyer I can see this being very difficult to fib through, and of course, you don't seem like the sort to lie from this thread! |

Maybe if you had less money that you have now you would think otherwise, like above if someone offers you money you don't turn it down, lifes too short for that unless you're rich.
I should be recieveing my compensation & i'll be damned if i turn it down! Money is money. |

Until the day you get involved in some very minor mishap, and some one sues you!
The pub a colleague of mine goes to regularly had to pay a customer £10,000 because a tiny wall mounted speaker fell on her. She claimed back pain, but it was not painful enough to prevent her from staying in for about an hour to finish her meal and drink before going into A&E; walking in. She got a good lawyer, who managed to find an orthopaedic surgeon who testified on her behalf. If this happened to your buisness, would you be happy? Peoples greed can ruin others livelihood! I am not against legal action for compensation in cases of clear cut negligence leading to significant disability or loss of income, but people have got to realise that sometimes 'shit happens'. It is wrong to pin the blame for every little thing wrong in one's life on someone else!
Before some says you would if you had the opportunity, I have never as of yet claimed compensation for anything, despite having had opportunities to do so on more than one occassion. I've had a few accidents and experiences, which affected me physically and mentally, but to me that is all part of life; something to learn from. |

hes right its why I was soo pissy poor in 2001 infact I'm still piss poor but not that bad , it was a shit job that involved tricking already heavily indebted people into phoning a £1 min phone line to take up non existant loans , I left after less than 15 minutes into the job.
Others there apparently made a mint I often think back and wonder how they sleep at nights. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Human nature to do it, and you make up excuses to deflect pious overspoken gits who have never been there.
Ranting about blokes kicking crap out of the guy their gf is cheating on them with for example.
I've always found it stupid that the girl cheats and the guy gets the agro.
Now im sure as soon as it happens to me, it will be a different matter.
Same as the comp culture, everyone can act all high and mighty when they arent the ones being handed a golden ticket for kicking up a fuss. To be fair most of you people saying you wouldnt do it are mainly saying that because you HOPE you wouldnt, or you couldnt be arsed. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
