Yeah, I know, it's happened to bloody everyone and it's been whinged about numerous times before. However, I still fail to understand the mentality of a car driver who glances in their mirror (Yeah, that's right you Fiesta driving Nob Jockey , I saw you look up when you heard me blip the throttle), see’s the sight of a two wheeled banana with headlights on full creeping through the flow of traffic and then swerves to the right purposely in an attempt to desist the fruit from making any further progress.

I can only come up with the following excuse for todays’ haphazard change of direction…

You’re one of those Eddie Stobart Lorry enthusiasts. Your weekends are spent on motorway bridges where you sit in a deck chair wearing your Stobart matching cap and cufflinks combo purchased online from www.eddiesstowedgarb.com waiting for a HGV to come along bearing the infamous green livery. Once spotted you jot down the registration number and lorry name while the wife takes a polaroid of the lorry and also one of you writing excitedly in your Eddie Stopad. After the excitement of a drive by has disappeared you take a long satisfying sip of Earl Grey from your Eddie Stowflask and settle down with one eye still on the 6 lanes to read ‘Transport Spotter Weekly’. At the end of a long day you drive your Fiesta home and record your days findings in a Excel Stobart document, have a bowl of Shreddies Stobart and retire to bed not before kissing your Teddy Stobart goodnight.

The aforementioned would be a feasible excuse for your swerve towards the vehicle to your right today as said vehicle was a brand spanking new 06 Stobart artic bearing the name ‘Matilda’ . Maybe you were gripped with a sudden unexplained Eddie obsession and you were attempting to sidle up beside Matilda and get close enough to bag yourself the supreme piece of Stobart merchandise an Eddie mudflap (just think you’d be the envy of all of your 2 friends) which would take pride of place next to your matchbox Lorry on the mantelpiece.

Alternatively you were just an angry, bitter, resentful twat (driving a shite car) stuck in traffic on the way to your mind-numbing 9-5 job at the matchbox factory.

Either way, you’re a Bell End Pal.

Get as close as possible, and show them how loud bikes can be while glareing (through darkend visor preferably) if it don't make them move its sure makes them feel nervous..

Or if the traffic is stopped get off the bike and walk up to the window and ask them politely why they felt the need to move over..

Ditto for me this morning.

A bloke in an MX-5, he actually crossed the white line to stop me going by. It didn't worry me though, every time I see a bloke in an MX-5, I'm reminded of that scene in Men Behaving Badly where Tony points at that bloke and says 'And you, Mazda !!!!' whilst making the appropriate hand gesture Laughing

Mind you, a mate of mine came out with a classic last week, he pulled into a perfectly safe gap in traffic and some lad behind him, in a Cinqecento Sporting (an oxymoron if ever I've heard one) took exception to it. At the next set of lights, matey pulls alongside and starts having a go. My mate replies 'Wow, that's a PRETTY car'. Cue one embarassed chav Mr. Green

Cheers

Grim

If someone does it delibertately i'll still squeeze through anyway, if they want to be an arsehole they can have some scrapes from my R&G's which poke out more than anything else on the bike.

After that i'll sit in front of them for a while whilst unleashing my throttle with the clutch pulled in. If my tyres are pretty worn out I might even do a burnout in front of them. Middle Finger

In that situation I'll try and get in front, and then ride at about 5mph just to piss them off that bit more.

Usually works.

I usually find trying to get through the narrowed gap, heading for their mirror makes them move, wobbling a bit, and folding your mirror in really makes them panic and move with some urgency Laughing

I did nearly become a bonnet mascot on the way back from Donnington a week or so ago, a grey import looking guy in a mazda flashed me, I stayed as I know what they are like, he stopped and flashed his lights lots more, I looked the other way, looked back, he was still flashing... so I went to go and he lept foward turned into the junction I was waiting to get out of laughing his head off Rolling Eyes yeah hilarious, sad perthetic prick Evil or Very Mad

I have had people go out and hit me along a straight road lol for no reason what so ever.

So i just give them the Middle Finger slow down to about 25mph and everytime they go to overtake just speed up then drop back, done it a few times, good fun for me.

Until someone gets really pissed off and rear ends you, takes you out and leaves you in a ditch...

friend had his r1 totalled last week, went to over take a car and it took him out with a side swipe, bike is a write off, he was in a ditch for 45 minutes while the ambulance crew tried to find him

had to use thermal imaging from a helicopter to locate him in the end,

car drove off...

Thing is, if they rear end you in traffic, no matter what they say the Police will see it as there fault. They should of been far enough away to stop in case of an emergency.

Even if the police find it their fault

you will still have an injury of some sort
you are assuming they have insurance to claim off if your bike is damaged
and thats your NCB gone (unless protected)

so you still lose out

Nice post Steve H, made me smile.

What might help stop people doing this...

Headlights on full when filtering is illegal and annoying.

Also - Main beam also causes target fixation. Yes, you will observe the drivers looking AT you. Instead of what they're meant to be doing.

Doesn't relate to what this guy was doing mind. If he has a bug up his arse about people filtering then not much will change his mind. The main beam might have pushed him from ranting to doing though......

should probably add,

I was in my parents car with them, We were rear ended whilst sat at traffic lights, the guy just wasnt paying attention so went from 40 - 0 into the back of the car.

he then backed up and sped off, dad did the same after him

mom was shreeking dad to stop
I was on the phone to the police
dad lost him eventually as he wasn't going to take the risks this guy was.

Police tracked down the car,
then did nothing, he had no insurance, they didn't even do him for that as it was impossible to prove who was driving, even though I had a good look at the driver and could have easily recongnised his ugly bulbous face.

Err no, if it's their fault, you claim off their insurance so you don't lose any NCB what so ever, hence why everyone should have at least Third Party cover.

It;s still a claim in your history
you may not lose your NCB but come renewal you will have a claim to confess to

Hey, i like my 1993 Fiesta, it's my first car and i'm happy with it Mr. Green .

On topic though, i always make room for a biker if he's trying filter past as i know he's only going to blast past me in a few moments anyway.

Thanks for the comment BFG, when I say full I mean dipped, not on full 'here I bloody well come' beam.

I wasn't aware that it (dipped beam) was illegal however I'll do everything within my power to ensure people see me coming especally when filtering through slow(ish) moving traffic as I've seen many a biker clipped off by someone not paying attention whilst moving lanes.

Now I'm conscious of the fact that I'm an intentional law breaker I can brag about living life on the raggedy edge Wink

Here's one way to encourage drivers to give you more space:

how about a toot on the horn or a shake of the head rather than launching someones wing mirror off with your mx boot.

all this talk about slowing down in front of someone and winding them up is going to get you hurt when they ram you from behind so to speak and then drive off.

there are plenty of people in this country that will do that and not give it a second thought.

far too much anger on here Razz

It's not Smile. You're OK with dipped as it's reasonable to presume that you aren't dazzling other road users.
