My bellstaff leathers have served me well. Had the jeans 10 years now. Crashed in them twice (once at high speed) and they are still serviceable, althought the lining is starting to disintegrate. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Hein Gericke are worth a look, decent kit at a reasonable price https://www.hein-gericke.com/uk/ find your nearest store and try loads of stuff on.
As for helmets, set yourself a decent budget and try everything on and buy the best fit.
Clothing/leathers should be fairly tight fitting but not restrictive when you are on the bike and should allow full movement. A tightish fit is best to keep armour/padding in place in the event of a crash.
A lot of manufacturers gear is made in the same factories in the far east/Asia. So bear in mind that you might be buying something carrying a top brand name, that you could buy the equivalent of for a lot less with a lesser known brand. Check out the build quality of seems, zips, buttons, etc and the quality of the materials and compare a good few. Don't get rushed/pressured into things by pressuring sales staff. I actually find buying kit quite enjoyable, if you couldn't tell. |

Hein Gericke for textiles and/or leathers, pretty much all good quality kit, even on a budget - or Dainese/Alpinestars/Richa if you can afford them (and as long as they fit properly).
Arai or Shoei lid if you can afford it - or AGV for a quality lid that won't cost the earth.
Sidi, Alpinestars or Oxtar boots..
Gloves from Hein Gericke, Alpinestars
The main, most important consideration is to make sure that everything fits properly, and if you're buying from a reputable shop or dealer, there should be some staff available to give you some help and advice.
Personally I'd advise against buying bike clothing etc by mail order, IMO there's just no substitute to trying the kit on for yourself. ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N
