I'm basically a total newbie when it comes to bikes, and I have a question; whats the term used for a bike like this, without fairings:

I understand through some geeky interwebs research that it can be known as "Naked" or "Standard", but I'd like to know what this type is known as in the real world, or at least in the UK biking community. Does it have a name, or is it just nameless?

I've heard that referred to as having 'Bikini fairings' before though I'm not sure of the correct term.

there is no real set term. i suppose u cud call it a naked bike, or a streetbike. that specific bike could be called half faired. There is also streetfighters which are the more extreme sorta naked bikes. im sure someone will explain it better. have u got a bike? or interested in getting one? have fun! Thumbs Up

The one in the pic has a bikini fairing.

The correct term is naked bike - sometimes called a retro. However a Retro is more of an old looking bike.

Something like a Honda Hornet you'd refer to as a Naked Roadster or something like that.

Is it because you prefer not to be associated with the words 'muscular' and 'naked' ? Laughing

Thanks mate! Yeah I'm interested in bikes, I suppose it's just a case of me not really looking into it too much as I don't know much about mechanics or maintenance, etc, and I feel that'll let me down.

Naked and faried cover allot of stuff..

Manufacturers usually have.. (but usually dont mean that much tbh)

One of the great things about bikes is theres soooo many different kinds, and they are very different even if they dont really look it (most people see a naked bike and its a harley, and a faired one is a sports bike)

Thing with bikes ifs you get to know what to expect by the looks of them somethimes
.. example, shorter stumpy bikes (like a the buel) are fast turning generally and probably cramped.. long wheelbase bikes (pan european maybe) are not so, but stable at speed and comfy... a buel makes a crap touring bike (comparatively) and the pan is hard work when you get to twistys! (comparatively)

Theres no perfect bike, thats why mny aspire to or do own several, or one that is a mix of several Wink

Thats not a bikini fairing. Generally those are a lot smaller and are additions to naked bikes. I would say it is half faired. Cool

i have that bike(well the european 'diversion') and ive always refered to it as a sports tourer with bikini fairing and i have never heard of it being called anything else.

I definitely would not call the divvy a sports tourer. I would class the VFR, Thundercat and similar as sports tourers. The divvy I would call a naked bike, that one with a top fairing.

That's a half-faired bike - I usually consider anything like the fazer 600 or Bandit-S to fall into that category.

Aren't bikini fairings those little (usually 3rd party) jobs that you slap on fully-naked/retro bikes to deflect a bit of the wind blast?
