Welcome to the forum, glad to see you're enjoying biking Thumbs Up
Although from what I saw (limited experience) in my trips to Australia, you have the most amazing roads as far as surfacing and size go but everyone rides their bikes pretty slow it seems? Question
Either way I still envy you, and will pay you in both tea and crumpets if you'll marry me so I can move to Australia Laughing

Hi Caz, another late starter to biking eh? I'm 41 and only got my first bike in January this year, even though I took my test two years ago. Welcome.

Thank's for the warm welcome guy's,
I'm riding a 1998 XV 250 virago, I get off my restrictions in another 48 weeks, so I have a while to decide what I'll upgrade to Smile

Umm yeah, we do have some absolutely fantastic roads here in OZ,
I try to get out and do a twistie run at least once a week, I was up at "the black spur" yesterday ( very popular mountian run here in victoria)
As far as riding slow is concerned.....lol..It depends on who is watching, we have a speed limit of 100Kms on open roads and 110Kms on highways, most of our city streets are between 50Km zones for side streets and 80km's for the remainder.
We have an over abundance of speed cameras in OZ ( we call them GREED camera's) and our government enforces a 3km tolerance so the odds of getting caught are pretty high if you like to twist the wrist alot. Having said that, its not all that bad, we have all got our favourite roads we like to have a blast on( one's we know are not dotted with greed camera's)

My mum used to ride when I was a teenager, and I would sometimes pinch her bike and have a little ride when she wasn't home....lol, til one day I forgot to pull the clutch in when I was stopping in our gravel driveway, and down I went....but I did no damage to the bike and never got found out Smile

I've watched my brother ride for years, an enormous variety of bikes come and go up and down my driveway, but last year when he bought a CBR1000F....I was in awe....and thats when I decided to get a bike myself....and I haven't looked back. Life is so much different nowdays, new friends, new goals and a completely new outlook.....I am planning on a trip around OZ when I upgrade(and save some dosh)
I have joined a club here in OZ ( netrider ) and have been on lots of group rides and weekends away.A few weeks back 40 of us got together for a ride up the hills, what an awesome view to see 37 bikes in my mirrors all evenly spaced out, the line of bikes was about 2 Kms long Id say...can't wait for the next big ride Smile

Last weekend I went away with a group of 9 bikes, 3 male riders and 6 lady riders...LOL...we ( gals) outnumbered the guys 2to1.... first time for everything Razz

well, the sun is shining here, can't waste the day away online, stay shiny side up guys....Im off for a blatt around the hills.

Cheers
Caz

Sadly, I made up the 'drunk british backpacker' group. I know I loved it in Melbourne, I just can't remember why!

Did you get to do any/much riding whilst you were here?
If so...did you ride the "GOR" great ocean road, or the Black spur?

Didn't get to do any riding (oddly enough, never really thought about hopping on a bike the entire time I was in Oz) and didn't even get to do the backpacker must that is the GOR, I ended up flying out of Melbourne to Sydney...

I basically spent a lot of time in Melbourne city centre and even longer in Sydney, but never got to actually travel up and down the east coast!
