Do you filter? - I don't ride yet so I won't vote. I think I probably would filter on occasion once my confidence is up

I filter when there are more than around 3 or 4 cars stood at traffic lights, if there's only a few I just wait behind them.

Is that after you fell off whilst filtering or before? Laughing I usually only filter if theres a long line of traffic in front of me, if its just a few cars i dont usually bother unless im in a hurry

It takes me anything from 20 to 30 minutes to get to work on the bike. If I didn't filter it would take me at least an hour and fifteen, so not filtering isn't really an option; it would take away one of the main benefits of using the bike to commute. Filtering in rush hour London traffic sometimes gives me that "cat with nine lives" feeling; without doubt it's the most hazardous part of riding for me so alertness level needs to be at maximum. In a strange way it can also be quite therapeutic, zooming between the traffic and making progress with everyone else at a standstill.

I filtered with my instructor on the way to the test centre. Packed with traffic!

It was quite fun. Filter all the time on the Pizza Hut bikes. Nippy little things.

I'll filter whenever there's a safe opportunity, but I'm not as confident as I'd like to be, so probably still filter less than some

Having said that, I have quite a lot of opportunity cos I'm regularly commuting from one side of the city to the other at least 3 or 4 times a week Wink

Sometimes I filter. But only if there is more than cars, or the driver in front is really slow(Which happens a lot) The traffic lights always change while im still filtering at one particular set though. Make it look like I undertook them. Rolling Eyes

I filter (lane split) at every opportunity.
I am patient in traffic, I wait for a gap then negotiate it accordingly.

Filtering is simply exploiting one of the advantages of biking. Saying that, it's not always the best thing to do.

Some junctions around here i dont unless i no i can get to the front before a car comes up the other way.

For example busses etc swing quite wide of a few traffic lights and filtering would put my bike too close for me to be comfortable there so i hold back a few cars at certain junctions.

Always filter, I love it when drivers get pissed off because I have just 'bunked' infront of them and start beeping their horn or shouting out the window, Quick throw up of the finger and im off again Wink

I filter when I feel it's safe to do so. Filtering can be the quickest way to A&E if you aren't sensible.

Funny you should say that though because I sometimes, and I'm sure I'm not just imagining it, get a biker I've passed or been spotted by do something really stupid. Dangerous overtakes, undertakes and really dodgy filtering and I'm sure it's one of those things that happens because of the bike I ride and their eagerness not to be out done. I know that some people are just twats and that's that, but there are sort of indicators that mark them out from the other twats. Wink

I'd rather just sit and wait somewhere now than risk me or the bike and let them get on with it. Thumbs Up

Everyone must also have sets of traffic where they know that if they are red on approach, then with long enough queues, chances are that if they filter, the lights will turn green on them, leaving them amidst lots of moving traffic Sad

I filter if I can be bothered and if there's room.

I know the laws on filtering are sketchy, but I don't think you're supposed to filter at traffic lights or junctions and can get points for doing so.

I tend to filter every morning getting to work (though if running late I can arrive at the office at 9:05 and there's no traffic to filter through) until the cars reach about 45mph.

I tend not to overtake much on the rural roads though, I guess I'm more confident about slotting the Divvy through a gap than whipping around a 50mph car in a short distance. The bike'll do it, I tend not to.. Smile

BTW: anyone else ride the B526? I've seen loads of bikes out there in the evenings as I'm coming back from work. Same helmets every day.. Smile

K.

I was really nervous about filtering at first but do it pretty confidently now. Most car drivers are ok and move over a little as they see me approach in their mirors but I still find the odd one that moves to block me!
