The R6 is better because its an R6. The Triumph is just a Triumph, enough said!

It depends what you want from your bike. I've ridden both and I own a 675. The daytona is a much better road bike, when i rode the r6 Adam p lead the way on my daytona and i stuggled to keep up because i had to be sure i was in just the right gear before i overtook, where on the tona you knock it down one and you go.
Then engine of the r6 felt much like my hornet no go below 5k, and a lump at the top end. But the r6 had less in the middle and a huge lump of go at the top. So a less road friendly biek than both my hornet and D675.
In conclusion if you wnat a pure track bike for top end thrills buy an r6. if you want a sports bike that you can use on teh road (and is also faster on track) buy a D675.
Just one thing, the R6 is the best selling bike so far this year. Where as there are only 1000 675s for this country in 2006. So if you dont want to be seeing another one round every bendy bu the 675!

If it was my money, I'd get the triumph no question (preferably in graphite).

R6 was Bike magazine bike of the year, so it might be good, but it'll also be common as muck.

On the road, where most bikes are ridden, I wouldn't have thought so. And no, conventional design - nothing new, but a good engine layout. Bike magazine stated that from 40-120mph in top gear, the 675 matched an 06 R1 in roll ons. Plus, it sounds better than (m)any everyday inline 4.

Another thing about the R6 is that it realy needs a stearing dampner, it slaps more than an angry housewife! (Thats how the dealer described it!) the 675 comes with one as standard.

so the trimuph has a better frame better engine and handerling? so the only thing the r6 has going for it is that it looks slightly better

The new R6 didn't seem very quick at Snetterton the other day. There were two in my group and I outdragged them both at some point during the day. I'm not sure if the R6 riders were really pants or not but my bike done them pretty easily.

I would choose a revvy bike with less low down power for fun on the road. I have chosen a very bland engined race bike with relatively lots of low down torque*.

Fun and does it, haven't seen much evidence to suggest this?

I'd be put off buying a triumph just because of all the people that think triumps are cool for the sake of them Razz.
* Ok, not really what I would choose in an ideal world.

not much proof but in the bike 500 in the may issue of bike the triupmh beat the r6 round the french track 'Pau' by over a second with a lap time of 1.33.41 min to the r6's 1.34.69 min lap time.

and it also has the best fuel consumption of the 2 and a higher tank range by a whole 5 miles!

but both bikes are good im not diputing that jsut that my personal preferance would be the triumph, and the 675 may be slightly down on bhp next the the r6 but its got more torque then any of the other bikes in the class mainly down to the fact thats is capacity is 75cc greater then the rest bar the kwak zx 6r.

the 675 also beats the r6 on the 40-120mph roll on by 2.05s
but takes 2m's futher to stop from 70 so if you dont mind hitting that kid who jumped out infront of u on the m1 the triupmh wins (for me any way)

if you are thinking of getting either, you should test ride both.
The only reason I can think of for getting a brand new bike, is when its a brand new model like the 675, as i suspect the 06 r6 will be quite similar to the 05 r6.

Means little; the triumph comes with race rubber as standard, while the r6 does not, so if it's a stock bike they're trying that's not too amazing really.

Claimed torque is up 2ft.lb on the 636 and down 6ft.lb on the ducati; hardly revolutionary.
Odd that the R6 has a better roll on from 40.
Braking distance is usually more based on the rider than the bike when they're similar.

I'm not particularly against the Triumph; infact I may well quite like it for a daily use bike if you can be a bit lazier than on a 600.
However I'm definitely not that 'for' it, either.

Hi

Tend to agree with G that peakier engines are more fun. However not sure that the D675 is going to have a bland power delivery, and not sure that the difference between it and the R6 is really significient.

Joe wrote:

Think the issue here is that the peakier a bike is then the harder it is to get the best from it. You could make a 600 with 200hp, but if the power band was the width of a chocolate mouses cock then most riders would be quicker on a 600 Hornet.

Probably why which is faster round a track between the R6 and the D675 varies so much between road tests.

All the best

Keith

id definitely take the r6 after seeing the triumph in person
the quality of the finish is very poor, looks like it will rot and the paint and lacquer is badly applied
looks uber cheap(the red one anyway)
even BIKE magazine mentioned the poor finish
and the track times were becasue the triumph has proper tyres
i just wouldnt trust triumph with my money
