Guitars...

Hi guys, I've been thinking about getting a guitar etc. for a little while now. I want to go electric (don't most) and I'm going to try and self teach and get a mate to help teach me too. Any ideas what sort of money would get me a good starter kit and any links?

I was thinking about £300 all in, like guitar, amp, bag, leads etc.

Will I get something reasonable for that?

I think I like the strats...

aslong as u stick to buying a well known brand ie fender,ibnez, ect ect spend about 200 on guitar an 100 on the amp,, music shops ushly have deals on starter kits an wil point u in the rite direction,

You are supposed to start on acoustic and get the cords sorted first. Learning on an acoustic will improve your finger strength and put you ahead of most people who learn on electric

Funny enough, I've been seriously contemplating buying a bass guitar ... but I can't play for toffee.



Might stick to air guitar for now - I'm much better at that

Well to be fair, it has junior written on the head, but it aint junior in size.

Its full size, and I think the name refers to a model, and not the size!

If you're anywhere near sheffield, come have a butchers, or if you want i'll get a tape measure to it to prove.

Firstly ay up

I'd highly recommend the Yamaha 112. You can get them new for about 179 but shop around for the best deal (I've seen them for 149. They are mint guitars. I have one and have had it for years.
Also as far as amps go i highly rate the Peavey - Rage amps. Great little practice amps with decent distortion (if you want that kind of thing) for the price (mine was 75 a few years ago).
Also only idiots knock the bass. I'm not going to go mad and tell you all the great bass players out there cos if you can't pick any out of the music your listening to then you must be listening to some right shit.
All 3 instruments (guitar bass and drums) are all difficult in their own way. No one ever mentions grooving or timekeeping on guitar but thats the core of bass and drums (and any instrument i say - it's down to everyone involved to get the music grooving).

I would go for it, but as my other post says (see gb chat) I've had to fork out £216 for my new tyres, so a guitar will have to wait!!

Sorry mate, otherwise I would have it for sure, I fell in love with it straight away!

I've thought about it and my wages won't stretch that far until my wages go up in august! I can wait a wee bit!
