...one of my best mates from my school days (3 years ago now) was sentenced today for GBH and burglary.

I dont know whether to sympathise because he was my mate, or be angry for what he did.

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/staffordshire/4994500.stm

Just goes to show, drugs can really change you into a completely different person.

He was such a joker and a popular mate at school, and no more than 18 months after leaving school, he did this.

Shocked

Part of me wants the same thing, but part of me is in denial about it.

School is like a prison. Once people get out they change completely, fact of life mate. Some of the dicks at school are now nice people. and it goes Vice Versa. Don't be in denial he beat up a 94 year old.

Even if i had known him for the length of time you'd known him, i'd give him a fucking good kicking for that.

He beat up a 94 year old woman and she still hasn't gained conscieness (sp?)

I'm sure you can pretty much guarantee that he'll have a pretty rough time in prison. I'm sure that whether criminal or not, the majority of people wouldn't condone what this guy did.
I'm sure there's more than enough people inside willing to show him the error of his ways

i dont know what he was like at school, but i suspect he was just as much a tosser as a joker.

He is gonna have a tough time in prison, as its one thing to be in for gbh for beating up someone in a pub, or for burgling ppls houses when they just claim on insurance. Im sure there are some people in prison who dont need much of an excuse to give someone a hard time and I dont anyone has much sympathy for people who beat up 90 year old ladies. Hes lucky she survived as at that age it doesnt take much for them to fall off the perch.

I cant think of any reason why he would have needed to lay into her.

He could just have pushed past her and either got what he wanted or run off.

Im not sure if he can be turned into a decent human being, but you could be the man to do it.

Its gonna be tough for him in prison, so if you visited him occasionally, and helped him straighten himself out when he got out, he might settle down to work or sitting doing nothing on the dole instead of wrecking peoples lives when he gets out.

I think his defiance in court was a kind of defence mechanism as he was shit scared in court, so hes probably not an evil monster.

Being burgled is bad enough for a pensioner, being burgled and then seriously assaulted would, as has been said in the Bbc news report, end her so called life. For want of a better phrase, she'll be mentally fucked(trust issues, paranoia etc). Sick cunt, disassociate yourself immediately. Thumbs Down I hope he get's his come-uppance.

EDIT - Okay, she's not regained consciousness - To a woman of that age and what he's done, that's murder in my book.

The fucking animal. I hope he gets due punishment in prison. I suspect he will when word gets round about what he did.

However you knew him, this single act shows what sort of person he really is.

I have a mate who seriously assaulted someone as part of a dispute over his ex girlfriend and was at risk of going to prison. I didn't condone what he did and he knew at the time what I thought about it. I refused to give him any character reference for court as it would have been bullshit.
I didn't 'disown' him as a mate but you have to draw the line at loyalty.
If he had assaulted a 90 year old woman whilst breaking into her house I'd be so disgusted I wouldn't even want to see a picture of them again. Drugs are no excuse at all, he did that himself.
