Basically i got the virus of 125 cc sportsbike forum (yes i know now i should of had anti virus software on)

Basically everything is running painfully slow, the internet wont keep me logged into forums, it freezes all the time. I tried last night to run the Packard bell Restore windows cd, but when it says select 1 for windows xp restore and 2 for select drivers to install, i cant select any, itsl ike my keyboards not there.

Now i dont have a windows disc, just this cd that came with the computer, and i dont particullary want spend 3 trillion pound on windows, anyone willing lend me windows and a serial number get my comp back and running?

A Packard Bell recovery CD (or any other for that matter) will generally contain all files required for a full restore.
The primary disk partition will be removed and replaced with one from a CD image so removing any virus you may have. . . unless it's on a separate partition/drive etc.

I don't know what you use your computer for, but I'd strongly advise that you backup all your important files NOW! Neutral

You might want to get a firewall as well to monitor traffic in-out of your PC to stop you getting more viruses.

try downloading avg free anti virus. i found that it was the only one that removed spy falcon and about 200 other spyware and viruses. its free and it updates itself on power up.

I am not sure how some of these viruses work, but some (trojans) usually run a seperate application in the background (which is why your PC runs slow)

Disabling unwanted startup items using System Configuration Utility

*** Even though this works in a large majority of cases, disabling some startup applications may cause some items not to work correctly, ie sound or graphics applications. This does not affect windows applications, only 3rd party applications ***

Goto Start >> Run

https://img77.imageshack.us/img77/262/11vf.png

Type in: "msconfig"

https://img78.imageshack.us/img78/6466/21yp.png

Press OK

Select "Startup" from the top menu:

https://img147.imageshack.us/img147/7592/34vf.png

Deselct all programs which look "dodgy", for example on this I have stopped almost all, especially "InstafinderK INST" whatever spyware that is. If you are unsure post the list, and we can advise against didgy applications. Windows does not need ANY of these applications to function. They are purely 3rd party.

https://img107.imageshack.us/img107/3950/49jh.png

Then press 'apply' or 'ok' and press the 'restart' button to see the changes:

https://img78.imageshack.us/img78/7586/58ur.png

When the computer is restarted an information box will pop up telling you what you have done. Read it and understand then click the 'dont show this message again' box. Press ok.

Karma Thumbs Up

You don't want to just stop it running you NEED to get rid of it ......Especially InstafinderK INST...thats a nasty fucker Exclamation Exclamation ...

Name of the thread: InstaFinderK

Command or file name: InstaFinderK inst.exe

Hazard index: 5. Dangerous threat! Virus, trojan or spyware. You must get rid of it as soon as possible.

As for the original poster I still don't know how he knows he has a virus? There was no AV running and the spyware searches didn't bring anything up???? bwfc4eva86 who/what told you that you have a virus? More info needed as you don't need to reinstall windows to get rid of viruses!

I dont actually have a windows cd, just a Dell Restore cd. With allt original bits and bobs on! But it wont let me use that.

Also now my other comp doesnt work, logged off internet before, came back to find blue screen. And it wouldnt respond, so tried turning off by power button, no response, then turned it off at wall, left it a min started again, then switched on, and windows doesnt load, tried pressing for safe mode, and nothing. So now have one half working comp and one fucked comp, but it has mum's work on it Embarassed
