The hollywood and bikes thread got me thinking of a few films and it seems in films with bikes there is usually a common sort of trick where the riders the baddies with uzis chasing the good guy or the hero on such bike can turn the bike on a dime from a standing start.

The only examples I can think of right off the cuff are those old Channel 5 sequences before films which showed leather clad 'baddies' flip bikes round and round NOT doing uturns but almost lifting the rear and swinging it around.

And the sequence from Tomb Raider , where Angelina goes into central London to consult somebody and then rides off , turning the bike around instantly from a standing start , it probs wasn't her bit it looked like a pretty big bike and hence not limited to supermotos which are light and powerful.

anybody offer any insight as to how to pull off this instant turn trick? , be highly useful although probably hard on the tyres.

Thanks

Probably basically doing a donut?

So hold on the front brake and lots of power while leant over. I wouldn't try that sort of thing until you can do donuts fairly well; and you need to be ok at controlling rolling burnouts before then.

In Operation Condor Jackie Chan does a quite good 180 degree wheelie from a standing start to turn around.

Lean the bike on it's ear, keep you left foot on the ground, apply slight front brake, then whack the throttle open. This won't acheive the desired effect, you'll just trash your bike, but a more refined version should give the effect you're after. You'll need the bikes rotational omentum to get it upright when the rear regains grip, too.

As G said, I wouldn't bother trying to learn this unless you're competent at rolling burnouts, controlled skidding etc.

It's a motocross turn, sorta invented by off roaders to turn bikes round really quickly... funnily enough you dont use any front brake.... you just lean it over and dump the clutch and pull the bars towards you and the back should go light and spin round.... or the bike goes flying into a wall with you dragging behind it Laughing

you can do it with front brake if you do a "burnout" turn round but its not as quick usually... still looks cool though.

I think I would have more chance of doing an endo on the front wheel and then swinging the bike around just like they do on the BMX circuit, probably kill myself doing mind!

Bring back the White Helmets I say.

Glad the thread got you thinking though Itchy
