PostPosted: 22:02 - 19 May 2006    Post subject: Forward facing cameras??? Reply with quote

Hi,

Just been out on the bike for a bit, on way home got frustrated by a driver sitting at 20 on a 30 so finally got chance to overtake when went into 2 lanes. Only problem was i forgot about the speed camera. I was doing about 44 in a 30 (before anyones calls me daft, which i am Laughing its a open double lane 30 limit that really is a strange 30) but the camera was facing towards me when it flashed twice. Can i get done for this?
I'm kind of worried now, and my dad winding me up isn't helping Embarassed

Thanks
Mark

Don't worry about it. Been through plenty of forward facing cameras and been flashed.

You don't have a plate on the front so how do you think they'll know it's you?

ha, as I frequently like to quote: just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after you...

there's a couple of forward facing ones near my uni that I know can't get me, but for some reason I always slow for them. Just to be safe Rolling Eyes

The forward facing cameras shouldn't flash. Are you sure it wasn't a regular rear-facing gatso intended to get people travelling in the opposite direction?

There are a couple of forward facing truvelos right near my house, and some just near to where I work. I regularly speed up for them and go through with my middle finger stuck in the air (though I have to admit I'm paranoid enough not to do it everyday incase I annoy them enough to send plod round to hide in the bushes and watch me do it).

I consider it a service to the public to speed through the forward facers. The less film there is, the less people get tickets!

If the scameras really aren't about making money, then the government won't mind; anyone that sees the camera won't know it's empty, so they will still slow down for it. Thumbs Up

Come to think of it, the last one to flash me was one on the way out of Hastings on the way to Rye and I was on the wrong side of the road.

I thought they couldn't get you from the other side of the road, as they would be disturbed by traffic coming the other way?

I'm not sure whether they could prosecute you, but I think they can be triggered by going past them in the wrong direction. I've read (probably on here) that the way to test whether old Gatsos have film in them was to ride past in the opposite direction well above the speed limit, and see whether it flashed once or twice (once meaning that there was no film left).

Think nearly all modern speed cameras are digital (obviously apart from dummy cameras, if they still exist?).

The camera was meant as a rear faced camera i think Confused It would be rear faced originally if i was going the other way however the lines are on both sides of the road. So it was facing me as it flashed...if that makes sense Confused

I deliberately set off 4 gatsos a per day on the other side of the road, been doing that for about 6 years now, no fines yet!

no you will not get caught..

lay off the weed for a bit though.

also.. when you see all the cars slowing down for specs cameras on the motorway you can ride as fast as you like between them.. lane splitting between the cars as you go. ghostrider stylee and you will not get a ticket.

you talking about the one as you leave "the stade" area and are heading up the hill part?
if so, i got bored and wondered what'd happen speeding the other side of the road
too, i feel like a big man because of it Cool

It could well be. It's going uphill and I think there's a petrol station just up on the left.

not unless you ride a REALLY old bike , which had a number plate on the side or top of the front mud guard .

Though setting off cameras that way is bad I reckon since the camera authourities will just get pissed and put one facing the other way eventually

I have been told that specs cameras with an additional rear facing unit are now making an appearance. I am yet to see one in person, but the thought is disturbing none the less.

The more bikes that speed through them just because they can will no doubt end up with a change in the law in that motorbikes will have to display a front number plate.

Pulling a finger at a speed camera, you must feel so big and hard Rolling Eyes

Regularly went on ride outs with a coupla mates, occasionaly went on a road with an 80 zone (kmh) and a forward facing camera (they all are out here anyway! Laughing ).

We had an erm...salute of sorts, up on one wheel past the camera at 100 with our middle finger up *flash* *flash* *flash*

Was great fun, made us feel loved Laughing

Yeah I was thinking that. I've got one in the garage which used to be the old man's where the number plate goes along the top of the front mudgard. BSA or AJS me thinks it is. Even with that I'd doubt it'll get you as the number plate isn't forward facing. I think they got rid of them cos of a few nasty accidents.

I've always wondered about the mobile speed cameras (you know where they point them out the back of a van etc) if that catches you do the blokes sitting in the front of the van make a note of your number as you pass? or am I being too f*cking paranoid as well now!
