So, ive got an application form for a job at a firm.
One of the areas i have to fill in is

RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY :please give evidence of your experience

Ive only ever worked with 1 black guy, and we got on just fine. I really dont care about what colour someone is, and as long as they dont shove their religion or sexual preference down my throat ( if you will pardon the pun ) then im not really bothered.
So what the hell do i write.? There is half an A4 page for my answer !!
Maybe i should tell them that i wont pander to their PC nonsense, and refuse to answer.

Ahh diversity.

I normally get past it on my civil service job applications by saying I'm jewish and bisexual.

Were there other ethnic groups in your school?

Are they represented in your circle of friends, or down your local?

Have you visited countries where white is not the predominant colour?

Do you have gay or disabled friends or acquaintences?

Even if you don't, you could just make it up. Thumbs Up

Say you have a crippled, homosexual transvestite, black-asian friend who is a quarter Irish.

Do something like that Mr. Green.

Or just say you have learned to value diversity. That different backgrounds, life experiences, and cultural differences make for a good range of skills, opinions and resources. As you are aware of this, you believe that everyone is equally important in a team which in turn impacts on the level of performance... blah blah blah!

Rolling Eyes Or some shit like that! Laughing

Diversity is essentially difference. If you think of it using that term it may be easier for you to get a handle on. Don't just stick to the obvious differences, i.e. black and white, male and female etc. Widen it out a bit, disablity, culture, mental health etc. Acknowledge that different people bring/have different qualities. Mention that to treat people equally is not to treat them the same as everyone is individual and has differing needs. Put in some examples from your own experience and say that it you are aware that you can never be totally aware of difference as your own experiences are based on who you are, and that you are learning all the time.
