Just a quick one please guys and girls!

Coming to a junction/roundabout.

Am I right in thinking the correct sequence is:

1. Mirror check left and right
2. Indicate
3. Lifesaver/blind spot check over relevant shoulder (left if turning left etc..)
4. Move further left or right of your lane.
5. Final lifesaver before turn.

Thanks in advance.

It sounds stupid but remember to cancel the indicator after the turn.

It's a fail if you leave it on. It's dangerous as a car may pull out in front of you because they think you are going to turn when you're not.

Thanks for the help.
At the moment i'm not having a problem with that. As I come out of a turn I check mirrors and then cancel the signal. With a bit of luck it's habit now!

As I remember it (and this was some time ago now) they were looking for an additional 'head check' before you put the flashers on so:

1. Mirror check left and right
1a. Head check right
2. Indicate
3. Lifesaver/blind spot check over relevant shoulder (left if turning left etc..)
4. Move further left or right of your lane.
5. Final lifesaver before turn.

Hmm.. I was not taught this but it does make sense.
Can anybody else shed some light on this?

I assume that you would not fail for doing the extra check (although I have heard of people failing for doing lifesavers too much because by implication they are concentrating less on the road ahead).

Don't just practice for your test, learn it as the way to ride.

I still do pretty much all my checks 2 years down the line from passing my test, in fact sometimes I still talk myself through the manouvre! Embarassed

Why do you think the shoulder check is called a life-saver? Because one day it just might.......... Thumbs Up

You should definately do it on your test and keep doing them untill you have a very good awareness of what is going on around you. I always do at least 1 lifesaver 11 years after doing my test.

On your test, remember that they aren't after you being silly. You will be given the instruction to make the turn with plenty of time to complete the full exercise.

If there is a very short interval between two manouvers (eg. two roundabouts close together) then use your common sense and reduce the number of checks to something sensible (your main observation is always in the direction of travel).

Just remember, you should always do a lifesaver before moving sideways on the road in either direction where you could have another vehicle in your blind spot (which is why you are doing them in the first place).
