Use the throttle to make the bike go forward, use the momentum (sp?) to get the bike around the corner, use throttle again if you feel yourself tipping over.

Copied from another thread:

"The best way to do a U-turn, I find, is to just cover the rear brake with your foot, while using a combination of throttle and clutch to control speed. That is, disengaging the clutch to slow down, and releasing to speed up a little bit. As long as you're moving at a reasonable speed, just have the clutch disengaged.

With this method, you'll only have to slightly twist the throttle 2-3 times. At least that's what I found on the DT anyway."

Incidently..
On a bigger engined bike (ala DAS) this is apparently not the best method.

According to my instructor you must have exceptional clutch control to be able to perform a tidy and smooth U-Turn with the throttle and clutch only.

My limited experience has also proven this to be the case..
Slip the clutch and control speed with the back brake Smile

Back brake speed control Thumbs Up

Keep the revs high throughout the turn , this makes the bike always want to move so it's easier to control it with the clutch Wink

All of above...But the most important is to look where you want to be after the U turn. Don't look where your front wheel is going, as if you look at the kerb you will hit it! Oh and practise practise practise. Wink

Did one for the first time in ages a few days ago on the divvy.

DON'T look at the opposite kerb, you'll hit it.
Look where you want the bike to end up.
Get your clutch, throttle and rear brake control sorted before you turn.
don't be afraid to give it some revs, just keep it under control with the rear Brake and clutch. (don't adjust the clutch or brake during the turn otherwise you will wobble and either drop it or put a foot down.

Biggest tip?

do not be afraid to tip the bike over into the turn. Without countersteering and leaning the bike right over you won't be able to lock the bars at full whak and get round.

so:

control your speed
look where you want to go
get the bike on full lock asap.

K.

I rode a XVS Dragstar for my test (lack of options!) And its walking turning circle went from touching curb to touching curb.

On the U-turn it was a case of full lock right an head up an speed down.

I still think though the best bit of advice for any U Turn is positive attitude, if your worried or you think your gunna be wobbly then your bound to be.

If you know where the tests take place then go practise (keep out of the way though if the tests are going on or you'll piss the examiner off before you even start) at the exact spot as it'll up your confidence no end.
