I think so, I'd phone the DVLA, inspect the Yamaha letter and check.

You need to be asking "why" they don't know the year of manufacture.

Has it been/is it a donor bike?

Normally done with custom built bikes were age or make can,t be proved or ones from strange foreign manufactors like these chinese ones that are always poping up. makes getting insurance a nightmare though.

It's more to do with the origins being unknown or questionable.

It means its been registered in another country and then re-registered here OR it has been a CAT C or D (can never remember which is which) write off or possibly not registered at the time of manufacture for what ever reason (ie the military dont register alot of their vehicles as they are never used on public highways).

Generally steer clear of Q plates as most Insurance Company's won't go near them.

If it was built in 1976 then registered in 1994 then it will have been given a Q plate.

Hi

Q plates are given where there is a query over the vehicles age (or where there is no age, because different major parts are of different ages). The DVLA used to be far more keen on giving out Q plates but seemed to get over that idea.

Not sure how easy it is to get rid of the Q plate.

All the best

Keith

Really don't know. They used to love handing them out and they were virtually impossible to get rid of, but don't know these days (and compared to a decade ago you virtually never see Q plates these days).

All the best

As far as i am aware you cant lose a Q plate as a vehicles age is dictated by when it was registered.

If its a 1976 year of make vehicle you would have a hard time proving that to the DVLA and they won't register that vehicle with a 1994 reg as it's made more than a year before the date of first registration.

I work in Insurance and we won't accept anything with a Q plate or that has been a Q plate in the past as in some circumstances the DVLA will re-register the vehicle with a proper plate (i think only for late or early registrations in the past or specialist vehicles like hearses).

Best to steer clear of them.
