Tbh i see it as lucky coincidence, if someone gives me an extra fiver change by accident then thats just my luck. Then again if I see someone drop a 50 quid note I'd probably go and give it back to them.

A few weeks ago i was out taking a lunchtime walk with a few mates at work around the industrial estate where we work. Anyway i noticed an envelope lying on the pavement. picked it up and it contained £45, electricity bill and address of payee.

Now ordinarily, I probably would have kept the wonga, but, because it had a name and address guilt got to me, so it wsa decided to hand the money in.

Back to place of work and tried toget phone number but ex-directory, so went to police station to hand money in. Plod took my name, number, details of where money found etc.

Did the bastard who lost money phone up and say thankyou, did he bollocks!

Three conclusions then, I was wrong to hand it in, he was wrong for not phoning or plod kept it for himself.

Why on earth would you be wrong to hand it in? Just because you didn't get your praise for doing what a good human would have done? Did you not consider that they may have not got in contact with the person yet?

I agree with you dude, its always nice to be thanked and it's quite natural to feel f**ked off when people don't reward the great and the good but thats exactly why you shouldn't do it.
If everyone gave a little bit more than they took, looked out for one another, and did the right thing the world would be a beautiful place. It really would.
I'm not knocking you though dude - I offered to give someone a lift earlier - nothing special granted but right outta my way when I could be doing better things. They just said don't worry they (the person i was going to take them to) is coming to me.
Now I was pretty pis.sed off - where was the thank you for the offer, the thanks for putting yourself out for me when I know you're already busy or a touch of appreciation considering I wasn't getting anything out of it myself?
But like I say - thats not how the world/karma/'it' works. Good things happen to bad people, bad things happen to good and a million and one possibilities in-between.
Personally I want to be able to lay myself down to sleep at night knowing I did the right thing. Most likely no one will ever know and I'll get minimal reward or thanks for it. If thats how it is fine at least I did the best i could.
Who knows if there's heaven and hell. For all we know we might get jack sh!t at the end of it so we could have acted how the hell we liked all along. If that is the case I would still be who I am. It's important to me to be good and honest. I don't do it for you, for me or for them or anyone else or even because there's a chance of a higher power who will, at the end of it all take me to a better place/or consciousness. I do it because it is the right thing to do.
In a world where the higher echelons of our society are no better than the scum of the world should we be the same? No! We should be what we believe in and, as said, thats just being fair and right and honest.
I'm by far from perfect but I try hard to stay on the right side of the tracks. It's all you can do.

As a slight aside a nice quote from Brucie (Lee)...

"Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do."
