Hi guys!
I am 25 and I am thinking of buying a bike. I live in London and I am mostly gonna use it for sort distances inside the city. I haven't got a license for a bike , but I have been riding for over 10 years on a 50cc bike (Suzuki RV-50). This is an old model ( I think it is the ancestor of the Suzuki Van-Van 125). It has a manual gearbox. weights 85 Kg and can go quite fast for its size (I think something near 45 mph). So I suppose I will not experience serious problems with the CBT test , although the bike will be bigger (125cc). The thing is that I haven't been driving the bike in heavy traffic, so I can't say I know how to behave on the road. And I am not used to the British way of driving ( I came last year to London from Greece). However, I have been driving a car since 1998 so maybe this counts for some kind of "traffic experience/road behaviour" in the sense that I know more or less what to expect from a car driver and maybe I can predict his actions.
Anyway, here's my question: Should I go for a CBT +used 125cc bike, or should I take the DAS and wait for some time(due to lack of money) in order to buy a bigger bike? Will it be safer to start with a small 125cc and adapt to the differences it has compared to the one(50cc) I was riding before? Or should I go straight away to a bigger one? I have always dreamt of riding a Suzuki Bandit 600 and I am thinking that maybe the time has come...
And another thing: how much would the DAS cost?
That's all |

I've been quoted £480 for my full DAS, not including theory or CBT (Which I've already done).
I got my CBT and got a 125cc bike for a year.
You will definately have an advantage on your CBT, road skills will come in time |

What about if you do the DAS, so you'll get that out of the way, and just use a cheap and nasty bike until you can save money?
If you buy a cheapo bike then you're unlikely to lose much on it (I'm actually making a profit on ine ). |
