ok so the bike wasent starting. i charged the battery and it sorted the problem, for 1 day and a half and then it died again. charged it for 10 hours and it sorted it for two days again.

now surprise surprise, its died again. I was well pissed off coz I was starving and planning to drive to burger king quickly and my bike let me down in a big big way Evil or Very Mad

so, is this just a battery problem that will be sorted out with a brand new battery? its was fine for a few months before all this.

i cant remember what its called (i have a hangover at the min:D) but check the thing that charges the battery while the bike is running. A new battery wouldnt be a bad idea either Thumbs Up

Test your alternator/rectifier.

If it's anything like my bike, get a multimeter and put it across the battery terminals. At idle it should be making about 12-12.5V then rev the engine to about 4Krpm and it should be making about 14.5-15V. If it is then you know your charging system is OK, so maybe the battery is shagged and not holding it's charge.

Thumbs Up

join the club..

the work my speedfight has needed in its 6 months of my ownership...

3 spark plugs
2 sets of pads
front shock
headset bearings
speedo cable
rollers
belt
front master cylinder
rear braided brake hose
vacuum hose

and now it needs

rear tyre
rear wheel (has a flatspot so needs changing)
rear shock
rear swinging arm bearings
crank bearings or piston/barrel because something is rattling and im not sure what it is..

So you can guess how I feel about speedfights...

some things I picked up when ive inspected my bike. Others you just know are screwed..

Rear brake hose rubbed on the wheel all the way through the metal braiding.

Headset bearings where blatantly knackered. Front wheel used to skip and make one hell of a racket

Belt I just wanted to change as I had no idea of its mileage

Rollers I suspected to be worn and they were

Front shock was blown. I had 100% rebound 0% dampening. Add that to the shockingly wobbly headset and the effect was scary to say the least..

Vacuum hose was split and caused all sorts of problems.

Master cyclinder I knew was gone cos I could not get any pressure when bleeding the brakes.

Now there is a constant rattle when the engine is running and is consistant with the revs. Its not a big rattle but its not long before something goes. Aw well.. its done at least 500 miles like it so far... Aint gonna bother with it soon. I got a DT125R to fix Very Happy

speedfights are prone to knackered front shoxs.
i'll bet the master cyl is ok its just a pain to get them to pressure up i use a vacuem unit to do them. u can check by clamping the hose near the cyl and pump it up if it does keep lever in and release clamp, keep doing that untill releasing makes no differnce then keeping lever in open bleed nipple might take a few times but it'll work.
head bearings av been out and not repacked with good grease.
did you use stud lock on the variator pully and put the small steel washer back thats on the inner ie where the belt is if not say bye bye to the splines on crankshaft

i have a speedfight 100cc x race andi had the same problem, id be riding down the road and all of a sudden the lot would go off, lights, engine the lot! so i bought a new battery and everything seems fine, i took it for a good 2 hour run and it never went off once, now i have a fuel leak and it is a bastard to start from cold (only just did yesterday, last turn over b4 batt died) then i tried today and it just died (hopeing its just becuase the fuel leak making it hard to start therefore fucking the batt)

She is in the garage now gettin fuel leak done, speedo cable done and check the batt charge also not sure if its normal on these but iv notiuced a horrible rattle when i pull off and espec when i slow down (not sure if its the normal noise these make, as its my first one)??? il let you all know the outcome soon as i get it back sometime tonight

bought it for 500 quid for the summer to save for a nice gti, am i in for constant repair bills?

junopug. mines always rattled from pulling off and when closing the throttle. Its not a bit rattle. more like a whirl... I got that and a rattle that sounds like a spray can Question

zorgman.. I fitted everything back as it came off but I dont recall any washer. There probably was but im forgetful to say the least. I checked my haynes manual and is does mention a washer but it fits on before the variator and its states "if fitted"...

The rattles Ive got have been the same since before I changed the belt and its no different now Sad
