Hey guys, Im picking my GSXR-600 up next week but Im only 19 so I need to get the bike restricted. The guy at the dealer says it will be restricted by a new ECU. Is this true? As Ive heard of bikes being restricted by washers in the carbs and stuff, But an ECU?

Cheers
Jake

Some of the modern FI bikes are restricted by a different ECU, saves a lot of pissing about just to swop them over as the ECU is programmed to sort out everything to give the restrictive horsepower but run OK at that level.
Bit like reprogramming/tuning with a Power Commander...but in reverse Mr. Green

The bike in question is a GSXR-600k6, so it looks like this is right then.

I only plan to have the restricted ECU on for a short while, but at least i know its basically "plug and play" .

Cheers

Surely they should be able just to remap the ecu to run at 33hp, instead of a different ecu?

Lol, well sort of. Its not for the insurance company though, but my fucking mum haha.

I just want her to think its restricted as she and my dad have told me I have to.

I have just been down to put a deposit down on the bike and They said they arent required by law to sell it to me restricted as ive been riding for 3 years.

I did speak to the guy at the dealer and said they would just remap the system if i wanted, I was wondering whether anyone would know how to remap it back to the original software?

Cheers

Thanks mate, Im hoping that would be the case. If worst comes to worst Ill have to take it somewhere to be de-restricted.

Thanks for your help

how computer savvy are your parents? As much as this sort of thing is the reason im usually in the dog house, Id get myself in your favourite phot editing/ DTP package and be printing off a certificate
get yourself down to stationery box for some nice quality paper and print it witha watermark across that says "genuine" or the like Very Happy

look at the cert in the background of the pic for some inspiration

I am 19 too, but im not at the end of my restriction yet, is it 2 years since you passed?

Haha, that sounds like a plan albeit a lot of hassle lol.

I only passed my test in november last year but I have been riding a bike over 33bhp since. The rents are telling me to get the GSX restricted because it is a lot over compared to what my TZR is - 45bhp.

maybe a bit of hassle, but cheaper than getting ECU's remapped, and also more importantly....faster.
