As mentioned, had a bus ride to the Yamaha dealership to get an idea of a type of bike I want, here's a beauty that caught my eye

WR125X
https://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa430/Rilo_UK/a6333e49c79b17b70d28c89c5d3cf176_zps15933899.jpg

I've sort of fell in love, what do you think?
If I go though with getting it, it will be late July on finance, so my idea from now, start saving every month and pay the bike at a low finance rate for say 4 years, but in that time I keep saving and pay it all off when I get the money together!

But seriously...

Your cash your choice but if I were in the same situation splashing 3k on finance for a bike that has every potential to go walkies if I leave it anywhere wouldn't be my idea of TOTP

I'd get some good security for it, alarm, chain threaded though the sprocket and wheel, plus in a shed overnight that is also alarmed when the door is opened,

All of which will have precisely sod all effect against a dedicated thief.

Except Mr. Magistrate won't see it like that, and will most likely be introducing you to Mr. Prison Sentence.

Do yourself a favour; don't drop a shitload of money on a nickable 125. It just isn't worth it.

Something that's worth as much as your shoes, and that's it. Don't waste money on a flash 125, you'll just be bored of it when you pass your test.

Do you honestly see yourself riding a 125 in 4 years time?

I can see this turning out to be a millstone round your neck.

I've actually ridden that bike and for a 125, kinda fun, great suspension, stoppies galore but as soon as you take it on a dual carriage way it's geared so that it hits the end of the rev range at around 72 indicated on the screen which felt more like 60.

It also has no rev gauge, arrow exhaust with no baffle and it is sooooo loud Laughing

Okay fair enough I see everybody point, perfect sense

I was sitting on the YBR yesterday, felt nice like, but I'd honestly like a bike I could have fun on, I loved taking my old chinky piece of crap(tmec enduro) down shortcuts and a little off road because it could, as you said though Paddy the XR could do me, I had the Chinese version so the honda could serve me well I think.

Stinkwheel is right, you think four years on a four stroke 125 will be fun? Confused

How much is it and what would be the interest rate?

How old are you? Money towards a full license and a bigger bike would be a much better idea?

It's worth about 4 grand but the lad said to me the prices will be in today from Yamaha, he said it could go up or down.

And I'm not too sure on full details, I'm going back Sunday.

And 17, so I'm going to be with a 125cc for 2 years till I do my next test

You won't "have fun" on a 4 stroke 125.

You'll get around on the cheap, but you won't have fun. A 2 stroke DT125, you may have some fun on that, or an NSR125... but a 4 stroke, nope.

Essentially, you'll save money getting a YBR, there is nothing the WR does better than a used YBR, especially £3000 better.

It corners like a 125, it goes like a 125, its cheap like a 125.

I don't mean to keep sounding stubborn, I'm thankful for the advice but I did have fun on my 4 stroke 125 whilst it lasted, don't forget I've never rode anything higher so to me its a great thrill, it will soon go when I have my first ride of a 600, but till then, a 125 feels fast and fun to me Cool

But saying that man I'm not saying I'm not considering a YBR, I would get one, I just need something to get me say if I wanted to ride out 40 miles to see a friend, I'm guaranteed to get home, as I am with the YBR, so its an option, additional options I'd like is the fun factor

I'd be inclined to get a Varadero, I never "had fun" on it but it was a bomb proof bike and you'll get one for half the price of a WR.

If that's what you want then you can get that for a lot cheaper than £4k!!

What's the attraction of a new one?

If you're wanting a fun 125, have you considered a two stroke?

Was the original question not really a question and you're actually only interested in answers that are in agreement with you?

That's not a bad looking bike for me really, I'd need to find a local Honda Dealership and check it out, or try find one online in a few months time.

You tell me, brand new shiny bike that would actually feel like mine. Who knows what somebody has done to a second hand one, might of dropped it with no marks but internal damage that might get worse as it gets rode, who knows.

I've never considered one really no, I always think of them of the 'ganstaz' with the hoods up riding them on the pavement extremely loud and smokey, unless you think otherwise, try me

And just a friendly debate mate

A new one is a shiny new bike that hasn't potentially been abused but you also pay a premium for that. With a bit of looking around you should be able to get a good deal on a second hand one. If you buy new then you take a big hit on depreciation, let someone else suffer that loss.

Plenty of people who've bought a 125 new later regret doing so. It's expensive and the money would be better spent on other bike related things. Be it petrol, training, saving for a bigger bike, or various other things. I regret getting a new 125, I only joined BCF after it had been ordered, had I joined earlier then I expect quite a bit of money would have been saved.

If you think of two strokes as ganstaz then you local ganstazs must have good taste. Mr. Green They are loud and smokey but they're more fun than four strokes, maintenance isn't as bad as some like to make out, and you can derestrict them but that's not quite legal but many, many people do so. Maybe see if you can find one vaguely local to you and get a test ride.

They might be loud and smokey but when you're busy being faster than everyone on their four strokes, will you really care about the noise? Mr. Green

Excellent re friendly debate, was just asking cos there quite often there are people asking about a bike they're interested in but they're not interested in hearing opinions that are different to their own.

I'd also suggest doing some insurance quotes as I'd expect an NSR to be cheaper to insure than a new WR125X.

In your situation I'd get a dt125r £1000 then invest in an almax/ y anchor which you will be able to use for future bikes. If you do go for the dt go for one with electronic power valve imo otherwise it'll be shit off road ime. My DT had no low end at all and shit loads of top end, fun but put me off getting a 2 stroke off road bike untill i rode a KTM.

Actually I'd probably just get a car, I'm sick of 125's Very Happy

I should probably qualify that statement by saying that what can and does happen is people take out a 4 year HP agreement on a bike. It gets crashed/blown up/stolen within the first 12 months.

The insurance company for one reason or another wriggle out of paying out or pay out WAY less than would cover the outstanding balance.

You have no bike and still have to pay off the HP for the next three years.
