Ok I just voted that they are unsafe, which I didn't really think about lol. I agree, they are safe unless you got some nobber riding it. The scooters themselves I think are pretty well made, as well as the new modern sports bikes anyway.

What pisses me off is the dickheads on 125 peds and 50 peds who try to race you and stuff, and hog the road. They pul up along side you at lights then nudge in front of you, like twats, then rev the bollocks off it and weave in and out of traffic. You will be doing a steady 50mph and they will tootle alongside you trying to attract your attention, then you like knock it into 4th gear and bugger off. TOSSERS most of em, luckily there are a select few who are sound. Same goes with bikes, if I was telling the truth within 5 mins on my bike I woulda commited enough offences to lose my licence, same goes for a lot of people, but I don't put other people at risk.

i passed a scooter that was doing 30 today while i had my mate on the back on my 250. it was doing 30, ducking behind the instrument panel. we laughed. they are too slow to be safe because they dont have the power to get out of a situation.
but then to a large extent the scooter is as safe as the rider, but i'd rather see them on something with gears, especially out here in the countryside.

on a totally unrelated subject, did a lot of you have lessons before taking your test? i was quoted 150 quid for a days training, so i said forget and just took the test and passed it eventually.

I had plenty of lessons. They cost about £40 for the day.
The major reason I think Scooters are unsafe is due to the riders. BUT scooters are an extremely easy way to get on the road. Do you even need a CBT to get on a 50? But even so the CBT doesn't mean a great deal. Bikes have to be learned; the gears, the handling, leaning etc.
Pretty much anyone can jump on a scoot and start causing hassle in 15 minutes.
I think the more relaxed riding position worsens the situation too.

I think scooters are fantastic for commuting, or anyone who lacks the confidence/money for a bike. I think they're just becoming synonamous with 16/17 year old dick heads trying to show off.

I think it depends on when you got your car license. If you got it before a certain date you don't need to do a CBT. So in otherwords there's no risk of 16 year olds not doing a CBT.

yeah, instead of being a step before a 'real' bike they are a way of getting around before boy racers get their car license and buy that 1.6 Nova that they've been dreaming about.

Hi
I dont know about u guys but the scooter riders round here are twats, well most of em anyway. They go round in their litle groups trying to act hard in their shorts and t-shirts, they have no respect for themselves, therir scoots and other people, they chuck em around like toy's. Its soo funny when they try and race ya. They usually hang around the carpark when i work and wait 4 me to start up me NSR, then try and race me. They are in my mirrors for about um 5 seconds. What im starting to see is more 125's hanging round wif em. Why?. Sum dozy cunt near me has just got a brand new rs125, the one with the silver tank. He hangs round with scoots and its so sad to see. However hes a bit of a nob, no gloves and he wears trainers and tracksuite bottoms. I dont know why but it seem to only be the Rs's that do this, ive never seen someone on an NSR doing stuff like this, i wonder why

Hi
i think its because its cheep so rs's owners dont give a toss, seems like the immature peeps go for the Rs while the grown up sophisticated, go for the NSR, but then again i would say that. Dont hurt me!

RS's are cheap? I thought they were pricey, at least they seem to hold their value second hand. Is the new price cheaper or something?

If you say so. I haven't had much chance for comparison cos there aren't many 125's in the area. Especially NSR's- I've never seen one on the road even, and there are very few in the biketrader (most of which are old).

...do 'ped riders (except for you Dodd Very Happy ) have itchy underwear or something?...everytime I see them stop at a traffic light, they're always fidgeting and jumping about, trying to look aggressive!...

...just a question about peds/scoots: is it possible to rev them at a standstill? i.e. do they have some sort of neutral?...or will it just try to move off?...

no tin

if you wanna rev you have to clamp the rear brake

and the reason i would fidget at traffic lights, is cos its easy to get a wedgey or an uncomfortable position on a scoot, i dunno why, just is

I went on the scooter the other day to show it to someone who was interested in buying it. It felt so weird! the riding position is really cramped, your legs are all tucked in and the seat is really high! and having a brake where the clutch should be needed some getting used to.

The only scooter I would get from now on would be an Italjet Dragster 180, 100mph from a scoot Smile but I would have a proper bike too!

or a runner 180 (2 stroke version). Do they really do 100? I knew they were quick for a scoot (7 sec 0-60 or thereabouts) but I thought they only did about 85. 100's impressive Very Happy

but why is it that every single one of them has to take their mirrors off and put their feet on the passenger pegs they are just asking for an accident= cant see the rs turbo trying to overtake you+ cant dodge it too well when your feet are right back when it does take you on the chicane near burger king in sutton.
