I read somehwere that westfeild or maybe radical were making a new engine from 2 busa engines. instead of a 1.3 litre in line 4, it was going to be a 2.6 litre V8 :O
I saw a few megabusa's at a hillclimb at the weekend, an F3 car running on methanol, a Jedi with a 750 2 stroke in it, and a ford mexico with a V8 in it |

I've never understood the fascination with mini's. They're not even small or nice or fun to drive....but then I suppose I'm biased.
Why have a Mini when you can have a Fiat 126??

It's Radical that are making a V8 (Formed on the basis of two Busa engines, they've been using the 1300 unit for a few years now in there race and track cars). I used to do some work for them, so know some of the people there.
Dr Nick has the right idea, I'm with you on the 6R4 front. Although, I've always wanted a Ford RS200..... mmmmmm
Other than that, I'd like a Caterham, have plans to get one at some point. Just the funding that is compliating the issue.
Or, a original 1071 Cooper S mini. Not a bloody BMW One series piece of crap. ____________________ Colin McRae MBE 1968 - 2007 RIP

The new mini is probably a perfectly good car, but its not a real Mini is it? Its not what the old car was, British and thats what a lot of people have against it in Britain. Some people feel the Germans have stolen a British Icon for there own gain, and what with all those flags on cars going around you know just how patriotic Britains can be. As a car I expect the new Mini is bloody good, but as a Mini its just a souless BMW in a party dress, and thats just wrong.
Which is why I hate it

Looking at it from that point of view, I guess you are right, it's lost it's identidy now and has become more of a "wannabe" although in my opinion that goes for the Valkswagen beetle, the new ones are disgusting.
But I like the new mini on terms of looks more than it's identidy, but I do like old mini's a lot too, I just prefer newer shinier, more modern things.
But I can agree with you on the BMW taking it over etc. Lost a good icon but that's no reason to hate it |

Aggree with you on the Beetle there as well, thats even worse, engines in front, water cooled and everything. But thats what they call progress I suppose.
I guess whan I said I hated it I mean I hated it because of what it stands for.... the car itself seems a sweet little thing, and its much more refined, cleaner on the enviroment and quicker than the old Mini, its no doubt a better shineyer modern car. Its just though every time I see the "Mini" badge on one it just annoys me slightly, Im very over sensitive to things like that because of my liking for classic cars / bikes as much as new cars / bikes. ____________________ My bike: 1988 Kawasaki KH100 Status: Polluting Devon with two stroke smog and noise pollution!

I totally agree with you about the "re-vamped" versions of the Mini and the Beetle. The new Beetle is absolutely vile. Mini's and Beetles (old and new alike) drive like a car. There is nothing exciting about them. They are also as common as pie.
Have you ever driven a Fiat 126 or the more classic Fiat 500?? If you ever get the chance you will know what I am getting at. Rear wheel drive, tiny lawn-mower sized engine in the back, air cooled, so light you can make the front end lift (see pic above!) and just a barrel of laughs to drive and cannot be matched to the drive of any other car!!
Ok, I will shut up now. |
