So, what flavour of electricity comes out of the only to wires coming out of your alternator on you bike, AC or DC?

Wotcha.

It's an alternator - by the very fact that it's an alternator, AC comes out of it. The clue is in the name ALTernator - hence, alternating current. AC.

If it was a three phase alternator, then three wires would come out of it, and the output would be AC.

The two wires coming from a dynamo would be DC . + and -

My point being is that yer typical alternator on yer typical motor vehicle has a built in reg/rec and so only has two wires for output and it's regulated DC so you don't have a seperate alternator and regulator.

Its a bit different if it has a stator built bolted onto the casing on the end of the crank.

Wotcha.

My bikes are all old enough to have separate alternators. Prior to fitting modern regulator/rectifiers, they relied on a Zener diode and separate rectifier.

The alternator on my Ford trike has got the regulator/rectifier built in, and that has only the one output wire coming from it.

What sort of output does the alternator on the most modern of your vehhicles have? DC?
