You should try a new fan on the psu have you noticed it getting louder I have had three or four where the fan started to give up it still spins but at a slower rpm.

Replacing them sorted everyone also ad a system fan if the computer is in a warm room

Memtest was fine.

Been running the PC with the case wide open and exposed to better air circulation for the last few days. Haven't been arsed to get some new thermal paste as yet, but it seems to have cured the problem. Interesting that all the heat readings are fine (bad connection probably), and it has only gone like this recently though, with no changes.

Cheers for the ideas guys.

Are your fans/heatsinks clogged with dust?

When I was working at OSUK we had one system come back for repair becuase it kept shutting down, like yours is. There was literally half an inch of dust on every fan and heatsink and another half inch all over every horizontal surface! Madness.

i had this problem and so did distortion i think.

mine is an amd and after i changed the way the power leads inside were connected it was ok

there were basically two leads from the power supply, one had several devices connected to it and one was just connected to the hard drive

i switched the leads around so that the graphics card got its own lead (high load) and the lower consumption ones went off the other lead

i also disconnected the dvd drive and the floppy drive and just kept the dvd burner connected to use as a dvd drive

i cant remember if i changed the mother board power lead around or not

i havnt had any problems since

i think distortion had his power supply replaced with an uprated one but i dont know how that went

mine probably is caked in dust as i have never cleaned the dust off but as long as it works i dont care

Never seen a psu with just a single connection out of a psu, they are usualy equal and have at least 2 connections on each.

Graphics cards only use high load under gaming etc ,when not being used for extreme work they dont use more power.

So your psu came with more than 1 motherboard plug?
did you make this psu?

leave the case open and run it for a few days. I had a similar problem and it seemed to be heat related.
