You can price up oem parts here https://parts-a.kawasaki.eu/kepcc/kepcc?ALIAS=99254&PRODUCTGROUP=MCXR&DISPLACEMENT=501_750&MODELNAME=ER-6F&MODELYEAR=2009_EX650C9F&COLOR=15D&COUNTRY=GB&MACHINE=951

Personally I'd get it home and diy fix with used parts.

This has been a lesson. Learn from it for gods sake, because lessons can come cheaper than this, but they can also be a lot more costly.

Glad you walked away at least.

When I got my first big bike I had these strange ideas in my head. Those 2 habits both had an imagined ideal at their root, i.e. "the ideal rider should be able to take this [completely unsuitable] road at 50mph+ with the right road positioning and throttle control" and "the ideal rider should be able to get much better acceleration from standstill than I managed [from the last set of lights]", were my bad habits. I can't pinpoint when I stopped doing these things. It just sort of went away.

You live and learn. Lucky it was just an alternator. The gear selection lever can probably be straightened. The plastics don't really matter.

I'd possibly replace those with "Smooth IS fast." and "With more planning you probably wouldn't have had to stop at all.".

Yup, chillax

Just remember that everyone else on the road wants to kill you and you'll be fine. It's a fast way to learn defensive driving for sure.

Learning that you are actually a shit rider until you learn how to ride properly is difficult as it's natural to think you're a riding god or somit.

humble will make sure you get to reach god status.

Glad to hear you're ok, but I think you need to start a new thread for your "Riding Activities" if this thread is anything to go by.
You had me on the floor laughing at your description, I just pictured it in my head, was like a YT vid.

Oh, and get a gopro you might need it. (peraps we should have a whip round) I know we will. Laughing

All that aside, you take care.

Mate it would have looked every bit as embarrassing and funny as some random American gixxer bro failing to wheelie except I wear proper gear so didn’t send my trainers/ flip-flops into low earth orbit Laughing

He definitely would have flipped one of those. Night and day difference between ER6f and an MT09. I've had both.
Also 12k??? Mine was 7k brand new. Have they added rockets or something?

MT-09 starts at £9,000 but the SP version and a luggage pack will get it over £12,000.

The MT-07 starts at £7,000 nowadays.

Just had the garage on the phone they told me it needs:

Generator cover,
Cover gasket,
Stator,
Rotor,
Tyres.

Said all in and using non-Kawasaki stator it would be in the region of £950 - £1,150….

I am thinking they probably thought this would be an insurance job and priced it up like it was. Reason I suspect that is the woman on the phone asked “so it’s not through insurance?”.

All the parts on eBay come in at £305 and change if I go for non Kawasaki parts where possible and use a Renthal handlebar instead of a Kawasaki one.

Guess my best option is to just pay them to deliver the bike back to me and repair it myself? Tyres can wait till MOT time or next month anyway. I also think the current stator and rotor might be fine but they priced it up anyway.

Apologies for double post, but here’s what I can find on eBay so is it worth asking the garage for their labour cost only if I supply the parts?

Parts prices on eBay:

Stator (21003-0042) - £38.93 (New - non-Kawasaki part),
Rotor (21007-0601) - £62.36 (Used - Kawasaki part),
Generator cover (14031-0096) - £67.51 (New - Kawasaki part),
Generator cover gasket (11061-0165) - £5.95 (New - Kawasaki part),
Handlebar (46003-0152-26M) - £54.45 (New - Renthal).

(Part numbers from parts-a.Kawasaki.eu).

Tyres to be deferred to next month:

Pirelli Diablo Rosso II 120/70 ZR17 TL (58W) - £86.89,
Pirelli Diablo Rosso II 160/60 ZR17 TL (69W) - £86.89.

(Tyre sizes from mytyres.co.UK)

Doing the work yourself, at home, should be fairly easy and will save you money.

If you decide to give it a go, then check in advance the thread direction of the rotor retaining bolt, as well as its size. You may have to buy a tool to hold it steady. I've got a really good strap wrench tool where the band is actually made of steel, but a cheap strap wrench will probably work fine. Likewise, you may need to make or buy a bolt to remove the rotor. There's a sort of tool you can buy which basically just a bolt, with a bolt inside it. You remove the rotor retaining bolt, then screw on the rotor-lifting tool, and then tighten down on the bolt inside it. This then lifts up the rotor.

The Haynes manual most likely explains a way to remove the rotor with rudimentary tools on that bike. But work out what you would need to do and if it's feasible, before making the jump and relieving the garage of your bike.

Dude. Sorry to hear this - lessons learned etc. Go get that extra training we talked about before - it'll be worth the investment.

Anyway, tyres? Hang on, you just bought this from a dealer?

Oh, I spy you've done a fair few miles on it now.... As you were Thumbs Up PS: Easily done. I thought tyres were getting low on the BM as I set off for Wales and.... by the time I came back..... Lo and behold!

I would definitely be going for something more all-rounder than that, given nature of Scottish roads, type of commute, and the initial aim of using bike to supplant car for efficiency gains. I don't know how many miles you'd get out of those, but I bet it's not as many as some other tyres - alright if you can use the grip, but heading into Scottish winter and with a new rider Tut Tut Whistle

Other thing, if you're paying for it yourself, how bothered are you about it being factory fresh? If you can live with scuffs then you may as well only change the actually broken bits.

You can fit all that (excluding tyres) yourself fairly easily on a Saturday. Even if you need to buy tools it'll probably be cheaper than a garage and they last a lifetime.

Sorry I only took one pic of the damage so I’m not sure if it will help at all:

https://imgur.com/a/9egfMX3

I can accept that the stator might be damaged because it mounts onto the cover itself but the rotor mounts to the engine side and I can’t see any marks, etc on the rotor in the picture on the underside of the rotor which might have made any contact with the ground.

It is, but they didn't include it in their list of stuff. I would just replace it anyway, at £20 on eBay, it's one of the cheaper parts.
