I've recently noticed spots of oil on my garage floor under the bike, and obviously I'm a little concerned as it's only recently been happening. Would anyone be able to suggest what might be causing this to happen?

Checking the dipstick reveals that the oil level is lower than what I can recall the last time I checked (which wasn't too long ago, mind). The bike had a full service in August.

Right well I'll see if I can find out tomorrow - I'm not too mechanically minded regarding the bike though so I'm not certain I'll be able to locate it at all!

One thing you could do to make it easier to spot is to give the engine a thorough clean so when new oil appears you can see it Thumbs Up

Right I've whipped of all the relevant panels and had a look - seems like it might be coming from the region of the oil filter.
I've cleaned the entire area as much as possible, so now I get to wait and see!

Update:
With the bike having sat for a while I couldn't find any trace of oil leakage. So I decided to start it up - and within moments I could detect (using a highly advanced piece of kitchen towel) oil leaking from beind the front sprocket.

Any ideas what this might be? Is it worth taking the sprocket off and having a go at fixing it myself, or should I just take it to the dealer now I know the location of the leak?

If I were you I'd take the front sprocket cover off and have a look.

Need to see if you can see any damage to the engine casing around that area if there is it could be expensive.

Whilst back there clear off any of the crud that's around the front sprocket there and check the security of the lock washer & front sprocket nut (as on the 99 R6's they seem to come loose).

What year is the bike?

It's an 03, with about 8k miles on it.
I've got the sprocket cover off already, which is how I could tell the leak was coming from behind the sprocket. The nut and lock washer seem pretty secure.
I can't see any damage to the engine casing at all, after cleaning the muck off it all seems okay, could a seal have possibly broken somewhere?

I am quite concerned about this as I wouldn't expect the bike to have such a problem at it's age, and even more so as the problem has occured quite suddenly.

I took the front sprocket off, and the oil is definitely leaking from the drive shaft - the seal must be damaged.
Any idea how this would happen?
And how tough is it going to be to fix? Am I best just taking it to my local Yammy garage?

I wouldn't worry too much. I had a similar problem with my bike. Turned out to be leaking from the neutral switch. They originally thought it would be the seal for the sprocket, I was advised that if it was that it wouldn't cost hardly anything. Let us know how u get on Thumbs Up

Well I spoke to a few guys on the R6messagenet, and they've explained what could cause the problem. They've also told me how to solve it, and essentially I don't really have the techincal know-how to do it... so it's off to the garage!
I've had several quotes, all in the region of £400 Shocked Sad

I can't get anyone to look at it for at least a week though, so I'll post more when I know more.
