 |
|
Hi,
I just came across this Dutch invention:
https://www.dieselmotorcycle.co.uk/Images/T-800CDI.4.jpg
* Diesel standard / Bio-Diesel consumption / PPO (pure plant oil )1L : 40km+ / 2.5-L : 100km
* Semi and automatic shifting with a 6 speed gearbox / CVT.
* Turbo Intercooled.
* 130Nm 50HP range for maximum performance at 1800-2800rpm.
* Rearwheel shaft drive.
* DEEP low inpack exhaust system.
* Personal Digital Assisted (PDA/MDA) Electronic motorcycle management.
* Integraded expanding crashbar for bikeprotection.
* Ergonomics on seat hight , footrest and handlebar position. 70 to 120mm
* Travel-package intergraded in the design.
* Progressive brakelight and headlight. Power LED.
Seems like an interesting concept to me, but do you think it will catch on? Price is about £12,000
Here are some more pictures

Sorry if it's a repost, I looked about and did a search but couldn't find any reference to it.
Tim

Here is the story
Unveiled in May 2001,
The M1030M1 is claimed to be the world's first diesel-powered motorcycle designed specifically for military use. It is derived from a stock Kawasaki KLR650, and has been developed jointly by Californian firm Hayes Diversified Technologies and Britain's Royal Military College of Science. It is intended for the British and US military and for NATO. The 580cc diesel engine boasts a 50% improvement in fuel consumption over petrol-engined equivalents, lower emissions, and better cross-country utility. It gets 120 miles per gallon, the engine develops 33ft/lb of torque and the bike has a top speed of 85 mph.

F1 Engineering: "M1030M1 Diesel Combat Motorcycle -- This is no wimpy bike with a converted diesel generator for an engine. This is a high performance enduro bike that will run over 100 mph, revs over 7000 rpm and will climb the proverbial 'brick wall'."

foot notes:
I think it was made avalible to civvies , around 2003 , though its base cost was MUCH higher such that unless you are Sickpup , its not worth the hassle. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Theres a few people build diesel bikes, there is a following over there more than here i think.. not sure they'd be throwing 12k abotut though..
The military only carry petrol (afaik) for the bikes and nothing else so you can imagine the advantages there.. ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

Top speed was only about 60mph. I remember Top Gear racing one against a Mahindra Jeep (at Santa Pod maybe). Bike was away first, but the top speed of the car was something like 70mph so beat it on the 1/4 mile.
A team of people did the Round Britain route on one, and it returned nearly 200mpg.
