Im trying to get insurance for a first car...
Thing is, im 17, just passed test so no noclaims/ experience in their eyes (even tho i been on the roads for over a year and a half grrrr!)
Basically, i want a ford capri
im having trouble getting quotes for the 1.6 laser model.
Im after an old cheap one, only worth about a grand at the most, so something dating to <1987
cheapest quote ive had was £3098 TPO
Its fooking ridiculous!
Got any recomendations? ____________________ CBT - Done | Theory - Passed | Test - 4th Oct [PASSED!]

I dont like small cc 'boring' cars like corsas and clios etc.
Infact i hate them. They're clit cars: every cunts got one.
I want something different, something old but cool. ____________________ CBT - Done | Theory - Passed | Test - 4th Oct [PASSED!]

Then you'll be paying a hell of a lot for the privilege.
A long time ago I liked the idea of having a 'different' vehicle. Then I realised a lot of 'popular' ones were popular because they were actually good at what they do - one of the factors being value for money.
While my tarty side still likes the idea of being 'different' - my logical side has realised that if I'm not, I can do all sorts of different things with the money saved - in your case, so far we see about £2k.
Ignoring the racing, with that I could learn to paraglide and get a cheap glider - not only is it 'different', but I'd find it a lot more enjoyable than driving round in a vehicle that most will think "old crap" and a few will think "cool" about . |

Hi
It is regarded as a sporty car, so not really a hope in hell that you are going to get a decent insurance quote with effectively zero car no claims.
Put it this way, someone we know managed 2 weeks in their first car after passing their test recently before writing it off. And that was with experience on a moped before learning to drive. Insurance company have made a hell of a loss and know that the same will happen with a lot of people who have just passed their tests.
All the best

My tactics are find an insurance company, pay your first installment over the internet which will be no more than fifty quid, then once you've got your paperwork through cancel all dd's and then drive or ride 'very, very' carefullly. This way will cost you one payment every year. |

I had this problem, I decided to declare my non standart fit alloys, the only insurers who would take me under 25 with them actually declared as a modification were Footman James, an insurance company reccommended to me in a previous thread by Stinkwheel.
Car. Rover 214i 16v, 98 R reg : Me. 17 years old.
Alloys undeclared - £1300 compy with Direct Line.
Alloys declared - £1800 comp with Footman James.
Even the performance insurance and the mod friendly brokers would tolerate covering a set of £500 alloys no matter ANY price, was always "Company policy outrules modification to the vehicle of ANY kind if the main driver is under 25 years of age"
Well, I have paid for the comfort of having a fully legit first car, of all things I think that this is most important when starting out, I do not want problems with the legalities of my car costing me a fecking fortune if my little schemes to save a couple of hundred notes for the first year's payment and I am involved in an incedent that results in me being violently shafted for driving without valid insurance.
A quote after such an episode would make the puny former now look like a pencil sellotaped to the back of morbidly fat person from the full frontal view.
I would reccommend to others to do the same, with a car.
With a bike, there are certain liberties to be taken with a pinch of salt.
The lack of checking bikes allows this in my current view of recent events, cars always seem to be rammed to hell for misdomeners, and of course mopeds, be it for little or no L plates.
I am entitled to later defend allegations THAT, I have no balls and am a goody two shoes sissy-girl law abiding fag.
Largley thought about comment seemingly over.
Innit. ____________________ "Do what you always did, get what you always got"
