Posted: 15:03 - 27 Nov 2006 Post subject: Disc lock - how much damage? |
 |
|
Hey all,
The other week I visited a mate in a less than pleasant location(!) and therefore actually put my disc lock on my CBR125 (I usually just chain it up at home, often don't bother securing it at all if I'm popping to tescos & have parked it in a busy well lit area)
Anyway, I only feckin forgot I had it on (did have the yellow reminder cable thing on, but it was dark and it only fits on my rear disc so i didnt notice it )
Tried to pull away twice before I twigged, anyway I couldn't see any visible damage, but haven't had chance to have a good look in daylight.
The back brake does still work, however when pressed right down it feels 'odd'. Not sure how to describe it, it feels like something is tugging underfoot.
Will I have done lasting damage to any of the brake? Could I fix it myself? Am I a complete nugget who will not forget her disc lock again?
All replies appeciated
Cheers

Hey,
I did this on my GPZ400R, not once but bloody twice, however that was on the front brake.
Both discs got warped (I drove off once with it on the left, and the second time on the right).
When they where warped i could feel the brake lever pulsating in my hand. Im guessing this was due to the warped disc pushing the piston back in, and then the piston coming back out again.
You may have been lucky and may just be paranoid, but just to be on the safe side give your back brake a through looking over. Having your brakes fail isnt good
Cheers,
Shaun. |

Thanks for the quick replies
I feared as much. Will have a good look asap and in the meantime scour ebay for a disc.
Won't be doing that again!! (I hope... )
Cheers
