Data Tool seem to be the one that most people go for.

I have the Data Tool System 4 on my R1 but I can't say I like it that much, I much prefer the system 3.

Got a Datatool Veto Evo Alarm/Immobiliser myself. Very pleased with it. It's quite sensitive and beeps whenever the bike is moved. Can be a pain in strong winds.

Gave me a discount on insurance but I'm never sure how much notice people actually take of alarms. I'm sure that a lot more people will complain abut the noise rather than do something about it if it actually went off.

It's piece of mind i suppose.

I have an S4 "Red" fitted.

Can't fault it. Thumbs Up

But then I had no experience of the S3.

Why spend all that money on a cat 1 alarm, your money would be better spent on a decent ground anchor and an almax chain from what I've read. Alarms aren't even that much of a deterrant anymore, a pro thief would have your bike away so quickly that by the time the alarm has gone off and someones actually taken notice the bike will be gone.

There's too much button pressing on the S4 the S3 is much simpler.

I agree with this but I suppose it's also gonna give peice of mind and 'slightly' cheaper insurance.

Insurance company requested a CAT 1 alarm. Problem with having a chain and ground anchor is that you cant carry the ground anchor with you and fix it everytime the bike is parked up for 10 minuites.

I had a Meta 357 on my 954 Blade and it was faultless, unlike the Datatool I'd had previously on my R6. Got a Meta M357TV2-1 Cat 1 upgrade on the R1 and had no problems with it at all, it's even got a lovely key conversion. Wink

I've just bought a pager system to go with it that I'm sure I'll get round to fitting when the weather is better. Rolling Eyes

When I'm at work I have nothing to lock the bike to, so having the alarm is good because I know when the bike has been nudged and I can hear it from my office.

Tell them to fuck off, you have 6 points because you rode without insurance not because your bike got stolen, now phone them back and demand they take payment so you don't end up with 12 points. Wink

As for the ground anchor thing, your bike is most likely to be stolen from home, because it spends most of its time there and people will notice you coming and going (they probably ran a research program to say that too, I just got it off the top of my head). So a decent chain (almax are ok I hear Wink) will fend off dirty criminals and their bolt croppers a lot better than an alarm that everyone ignores will. Decent chains are expensive but if it stops the bike from getting stolen just once then they're worth their weight in gold.

I have an Almax chain, lock and ground anchor from the lovely Maxine and she gave me a tenner off for being a member of the forum. Thumbs Up Got from Here their online store. Chain is huge and the ground anchor was easily fitted by my monkey hands. I also have a Meta 357 whatever.

My stepdad has the same model of blade as you, he has the datatool alarm fitted it i remember correctly, thinks its brilliant, never bothered with any security other than it and a garage. Infact its so good, sometimes HE cant even get the bike started Laughing . Also i once set off the alarm in the garage by mistake, it almost deafened me, as far as im aware they use the highest available legal alarm Shocked

Don't forget that it is more often down to the standard of workmanship and knowledge of the alarm fitter, that determines how good your alarm will work and how reliable it will be in the future.

I think a lot of alarm problems are caused by bad fitting and not the actual failure of the alarm unit etc. So whatever you choose either Meta, Datatool or other cat 1, make sure that the person doing the work is experienced and recommended. Thumbs Up
